I have been unveiling my fall decor a little bit by a little bit.
I’m really not being a tease; that’s just how the fall decorating has gone this year… bit by bit, room by room, waylaid by things like rainy weather, kid birthday parties and real life.
But I think I’m finally finished…and not a moment too soon because Halloween and Thanksgiving and gulp, Christmas, are just around the corner.
While I’ve been veering away from traditional fall colors for most of my seasonal decor this year, I couldn’t resist using oranges, reds and yellows in the keeping room and breakfast nook where our family spends most of our time.
Except for one soggy, brief trip last week, we haven’t had a chance yet to visit the local orchard or pumpkin patch as is our family tradition.
So, I’ve done my best to bring the pumpkin patch and apple orchard home.
On the kitchen table…
… as well as on the hearth and mantel.
Our main TV is above the fireplace, so I like to keep my mantel simple after learning the hard way that too much decor can get in the way of changing the channel!
At the moment, the TV cabinet door is open and the mantel is covered with Star Wars characters because my son spent the weekend playing his new Disney Infinity 3.0 game. Yoda and Han and Chewbacca kinda go with our fall color scheme! And Han is wearing boots and a vest. Very fallish.
But Darth Vader is another story all together! That black cape and boots are much more suited to winter.
We interrupt real life for another decorating fantasy…
Fresh apples, nestled in a basket…
Pumpkins and gourds, a mix of faux and real, scattered along the hearth…
A bouquet of dried hydrangeas…
And leaves scattered all over the place.
Here, have a mug of spiked chai tea latte or a bite of caramel machiatto apples.
Have I convinced you we’re back at the pumpkin patch?
It all started with this handpainted pumpkin patch sign…
And there you go… pumpkins everywhere!
I couldn’t resist throwing in one shiny pumpkin, a nod to the metallic fall vibe I have going on elsewhere in the house.
You can see more of my nontraditional fall decorating in the dining room.
Or just step out on the front porch…
… where everything is gilded or galvanized…
… and colors you totally weren’t expecting for fall.
