Welcome to my 2023 Christmas Home Tour — a showcase of all things glittery, golden, vintage, traditional and shiny.
Believe it or not, this is my holiday version of minimalism. I really did take a less is more approach this year, leaving some bins in the attic and only displaying my favorite holiday decor.
It’s still a lot! In our home, we definitely believe in an explosion of joy at Christmas!

Christmas Front Porch
We’ll start the tour or on front porch, which is always decorated a little more traditionally and rustically than the rest of the house.
For the past several years, I’ve used a black-and-red color scheme on the porch, along with fresh greenery.
This year, I used a lot of candy cane stripes and plaid patterns, with a touch of whimsy.
You can see all our front porch Christmas decorations, plus tour six other bloggers’ porches, here.
Foyer Decor
From the porch, we head into our foyer, which might be my favorite spot to decorate for Christmas every year.
This is where I display my tinsel trees and my collection of Shiny Brites and other vintage Christmas ornaments.
Instead of putting out my pink flocked Christmas tree, I decorated a pair of tinsel trees and a wooden bird cage with as many vintage ornaments as would fit!
I’m always trying to mix things up and find different ways to display my growing collection of vintage ornaments. I hit up thrift stores throughout the year to find containers to fit the trees.
And of course, I’m always looking or more ornaments!
I’d forgotten all about this one, which I bought for half off after Christmas last year, until I unwrapped it to hang on the tree.

This year, I had fun decorating a painted bird cage with bottle brush Christmas trees and shiny, glass baubles.
I have a mix of vintage and new bottlebrush trees. I tend to favor ones in pastel colors.
I did worry a bit that the bottlebrush trees, bird cage and colorful baubles would be too much temptation for our cats.
But they seem content just to sun themselves in the morning light in front of the pretty vintage display.
Dining Room Christmas Decorations
The foyer is adjacent to our dining room; I gave you a little sneak peek at the space earlier.
My mother-in-law’s brass planter is the perfect vessel for the dining room tree.
Check out my tricks for securing a Christmas tree in a planter and see how I decorated this same Christmas tree with dried hydrangeas a few years ago.
I decided to decorate the dining room tree with different shades of blue, pulling inspiration from our chinosierie style wallpaper.
I also added in some glittery nests, gold faux amaryllis blooms, blue ribbon, mercury glass baubles, bottlebrush wreaths and blue-and-white ginger jar ornaments.
It’s all topped off with a festive bird.
I kept the rest of the dining room decorations fairly simple, just adding some fresh flowers and a few festive baubles alongside vintage brass candlesticks.
These fluted delicate blown glass vases from Willow Crossley’s collab with At Home are so pretty with just a few stems and greenery.
They’re definitely out of season, but I couldn’t resist these so-called “winter peonies” from Trader Joe’s.
I just scatter the vases down the center of the table, not really worrying about symmetry.
Living Room Christmas Decorations
Now we’ll head into the living room, where we have our main Christmas tree.
After the lights went kaput on our old prelit tree, we bought this 9-foot flocked Christmas tree to replace it. It’s definitely a beaut (and also a beast to decorate, being so tall and so large in diameter).
It’s a good thing I have a large collection of ornaments, most of them figural glass or souvenirs from our travels and our life as a family.
The ornaments are layered in the tree, along with faux florals. This year, I used lots of red berries and gold glittery picks to fill in any bare spots.
Don’t let the packages under the tree fool you. Those boxes are empty, and the gifts are from an advent calendar I bought for myself!
Since our tree makes such a statement, I didn’t do a lot of other decorating in the living room. It’s definitely toned down from years past.
But I did have to display this new-to-me ceramic Christmas tree that a friend who was helping someone clean out her attic gave to me. The tree is from “at least 1973,” according to the handwritten note on the box, so it’s exactly the same age as I am.
I also set out a collection of brass deer figurines on our vintage brass and glass coffee table (which was a lucky auction score).
Keeping Room Christmas Decor
Finally, we’ll head into our keeping room, where our family spends the bulk of our time.
I used to try to create elaborate mantel and fireplace displays. But honestly I’ve strugged to find a garland that works with our stone mantel and the TV cabinet above it.
It’s tricky to hang things from the stone mantel, and I can’t set a big garland on top of it because then it obscures the TV. So, I keep things simple with a gold eucalyptus garland with some twinkling globe lights woven through it. A pair of mercury glass candlesticks and some glass Christmas trees add to the glow.
I used some winter stems and gilded pomegranate to create an arrangement in one of my blue and white ginger jars on the hearth.
I purchased this big jar from stylist, designer and photographer Matthew Mead’s prop sale over the summer. Matthew has always been an inspiration to me, and I pull out his magazines every holiday season for ideas. I had the chance to meet and learn from Matthew at several conferences and when I participated in a design challenge with Wagner. He’s facing some health and financial challenges as he awaits a kidney transplant. If you’re able and inclined, please consider donating to his GoFundMe.
I also added a few Christmasy touches to this antique empire sideboard, which might be my most interesting and historically significant estate sale find ever.
The porcelain pieces live here yearround. But I added some golden touches and created some festive floral arrangments with Trader Joe’s roses, hydrangeas, magnolia and eucalyptus.
I hope you’ve enjoyed this look at our holiday home. It’s always a pleasure to share it with you.
