These Christmas napkin rings are throwback to my Brownie Girl Scout days.
We’re talking way back in the 1970s!
My mom was one of our troop leaders, and one of the kids gave her a set of felt Santa Claus Christmas napkin rings . She’s saved them all these years. (That’s the original above!)
I’m always on the lookout for easy crafts for kids, and this one qualifies. They require little prep work for parents, and they’re easy for kids to put together.

Supplies for Felt Santa Claus Christmas Napkin Rings
Here’s what you need to make your own:
- White felt
- Pink felt
- Medium red pom-poms
- Googly eyes
- Craft glue
- Scissors
- Santa Napkin Ring Pattern
- Red napkins

If you’re making this craft with little kids, you may want to cut out the felt shapes first, so they only have to glue the pieces together.
How to Make Felt Santa Christmas Napkin Rings
Using the provided pattern, trace Santa’s beard onto felt using a pencil or a disappearing fabric marker. Cut out the shape. You should be able to make several napkin rings out of each piece of craft felt.
Glue a small rectangle of pink felt to the backside of the beard for Santa’s face. I like to use quick-drying craft glue for this.
Flip the napkin ring over and glue two eyes on Santa’s face. Kids may find it helpful to use toothpicks to add just a small dab of glue to the backs of the eyes.
Glue a red pom-pom for Santa’s nose.
Turn Santa over and secure the ends of the napkin ring with craft glue, creating a loop where the napkin will.
You can trim Santa’s beard a bit at this point, if you like, to make the shape more defined.
Fold a red napkin so that there’s a point at one end and glue. Glue a white pom-pom to the pointed tip of the napkin.
Once the glue had dried completely, insert the napkin into the ring to create Santa’s hat. For this project, we used cocktail napkins, which are the perfect size for Santa’s hat. You could also use dinner napkins or even cloth napkins.
If you use a larger napkin, they’ll just stick out a bit below Santa’s beard. But they’re still super cute.
How To Video
Seriously, the hardest part of this project is folding the napkins. I’ve updated this post recently with new photography, but when I originally posted this project, my son made the napkin ring, as you can see in the photos below.
