Hi, I’m Amy, the creative force behind Atta Girl Says! I live in my home state of North Carolina, along with my husband, Bruce, our 12-year-old son and a feisty tabby cat named, Felix.
Atta Girl Says is an online lifestyle magazine for women who share my passion for living homemade. My goal is to encourage women to nurture their creativity through recipes, crafts and projects that are designed to make your home brighter and your heart lighter. I share easy DIYs, crafts and decorating ideas with a vintage vibe along with delicious recipes and entertaining ideas steeped in southern tradition and hospitality.
I am obsessed with yard sale shopping, blue and white chinoiserie, vintage Shiny-Brite Christmas ornaments, the colors aqua and pink, teen drama TV shows, making my own bath and beauty products, and McCoy pottery! (I even named my late dog McCoy.)
I used to make my living as a newspaper business reporter, before leaving to write business books about companies like Krispy Kreme and Build-A-Bear Workshop.
Now, I’m a full-time creative entrepreneur, sharing projects and ideas here on Atta Girl Says, as well as for my brand partners. I also create content for a variety of regional and national magazines, including Country Sampler, 1808, Farmhouse Style, Cottages & Bungalows and Better Homes & Gardens Holiday Crafts.
Creativity keeps me up at night – and I wouldn’t have it any other way. I started Atta Girl Says in 2012, shortly after we moved into our dream home, to nurture my creativity and to encourage other women to do the same. (You can read all about that here in my blogging manifesto.)
You don’t have to be an expert to complete the projects on Atta Girl Says. I break each down into easy steps, sharing helpful tips and funny quips along the way. I want my readers to view me as a teacher, cheerleader and sassy southern sidekick in their creative journey.
Think of me as the Louise to your Thelma, the Truvy to your Annelle and your very own Sugarbaker sister – big hair and all!
Most importantly, I want readers to feel proud of what they’ve made: “Atta Girl! You did it!”
