Scent your drawers with these homemade lavender wax sachets, scented with dried lavender buds and lavender essential oil. Use them in a lingerie drawer or to keep sweaters and off-season clothing smelling fresh. These homemade lavender sachets make great gifts.
Our garden yielded a lot of fragrant lavender flowers last year, so I harvested and dried the bundles to use for projects and recipes.
These soy wax lavender sachets are pretty and very easy to make. They also make your drawers smell amazing!
You could use other dried botanicals and essential oils to make wax sachets. But I love the floral-herbal scent of dried lavender.

How to Use Wax Sachets
I like to place wax sachets into drawers with lingerie or sweaters or in closets with off-season clothing. Slide one into the pocket of a winter coat to keep it smelling fresh all year long.
Because the wax can leave a residue on clothing, always wrap wax sachets in muslin or tissue paper before placing them in drawers. You can also slide them into pretty drawstring bags to keep any wax residue off of clothing.
Lavendar sachets can also be used as natural air fresheners. Just place one on a saucer or bowl to scent a closet or room.

How to Make Wax Sachets
Time needed: 30 minutes.
Learn how to make fragrant wax sachets scented with dried lavender buds and lavender essential oil. They can be used as air fresheners or to keep drawers smelling fresh.
- Melt the wax.
Fill a shallow pan with a couple inches of water over low heat.
Measure the wax flakes into a candle pouring pot or a heat-proof glass measuring cup.
Place the filled pouring pot or glass measuring cup into the pan of the water and melt the wax slowly, stirring frequently.
Once the wax is completely melted, remove pouring pot from the double boiler. - Add color, if desired.
If desired, add in powdered mica to tint the wax. I used two small 15cc scoops of Queen’s Purple Mica to achieve the pale purple color of these wax sachets.
You may find it helpful to dissolve the mica powder in a tablespoon of rubbing alcohol before adding it to the melted wax to prevent clumping. - Add fragrance and lavender buds.
Once the color has been added, mix in 60 drops of lavender essential oil, stirring to incorporate.
Allow the mixture to cool slightly before adding 3 Tablespoons of dried lavender buds. Stir well to combine. - Pour into molds.
Let the mixture cool to about 120 to 125 degrees before pouring into the molds.
I like to use an infrared thermometer, aimed at the surface of the melted wax, to test the temperature.
If you pour the wax when the mixture is too hot, the lavender buds won’t be incorporated throughout the sachet, as you can see in the photo below. - Allow to cool and harden.
Let the wax sachets cool and harden for several hours, or preferably overnight, before carefully removing them from the molds.
Tips & Variations
- Skip the colorants: You don’t have to use mica powder or colorant in wax sachets. Just be mindful that dried lavender buds will not retain their purple color when added to wax. They will discolor to a woody brown-green color.
- Leave out the dried lavender: You can leave out the dried lavender buds if you don’t like the look of them. Try adding other dried florals with clear wax.
- Try different molds: Use different silicone molds to make fragrance sachets. Molds come in a variety of shapes and sizes.
- Try different scents: Use different essential oils, oil blends or fragrance oils to create the perfect scent.
- Make hanging wax sachets. Just use a skewer or metal straw to make a hole in the wax sachet, then thread a ribbon through for hanging.
- Protect clothing: To prevent the wax from leaving a residue on clothing, wrap sachets in muslin cloth or place them in organza bags.
