The natural ingredients used in this DIY eye cream are moisturizing and gentle for the delicate skin around your eyes.
Coconut oil is an emollient, helping to retain moisture, counteract dryness and soften the skin. Shea butter, which is great for dry and chapped skin, helps improve elasticity. Honey has skin brightening properties. Frankincense and lavender essential oils are both very gentle and good for dry and mature skin.
Ingredients & Supplies for DIY Eye Cream
- glass jar or measuring cup
- measuring spoons
- spoon for stirring
- 2 Tablespoons shea butter
- 1 Tablespoon coconut oil
- 1 teaspoon beeswax
- 1/2 teaspoon raw honey
- 2 drops lavender essential oil
- 2 drops frankincense essential oil
- small tin containers or plastic jars
How to Make DIY Eye Cream
Combine coconut oil, shea butter and beeswax pellets in a medium glass measuring cup or mason jar.
Melt the oils in the microwave or using a double boiler method.
If using a microwave, heat for 30 seconds, then stir. Continue heating in 10 second bursts, stirring after every 10 seconds, until the oil, butter and beeswax are melted.
If using the double boiler method, place the glass jar or measuring cup in a pan filled with two inches of water. Heat over medium-low, stirring frequently, until all the oil, butter and beeswax has liquified.
Allow the mixture to cool and thicken for a few minutes, then stir in the raw honey.
Stir for at least one minute, or more, until the honey is completely incorporated. (It will have a tendency to separate if the oil mixture is too hot.)
Finally, add two drops of lavender essential oil and two drops of frankincense essential oil. Stir to mix completely.
Pour or spoon the DIY eye cream into tin containers into small plastic jars. Allow mixture to cool and solidify before adding the tops to the containers.
While the ingredients in this DIY eye cream are very gentle, you should be careful not to get this cream in your eyes. As with any new beauty product or regimen, you should use caution when applying, and you may want to test on a less delicate patch of skin before applying to the eye area. Discontinue use if any irritation occurs.
