Well, hi there.

Atta Girl Says: Summer Tropical Wreath

I thought I heard someone knocking.

Atta Girl Says: Welcome to My Home Foyer Entryway

You must be here for the Summer 2013 Showcase of Homes.

Atta Girl Says: Summer Showcase of Homes

I’m proud to be kicking off our weeklong showcase of 26 fabulous blogger homes, along with The Happier Homemaker, Rain on a Tin Roof, Better with Age and Top This Top That.

Atta Girl Says: Handpainted Duck Egg Blue Chalk Paint Buffet in Foyer

This is the foyer, and I think you can tell right away that I like vintage pottery and painted furniture, like this Duck Egg Blue buffet I painted.

Atta Girl Says: Decorating with Houseplants in Foyer

I love decorating the entryway for every season. For summer, I’m showcasing houseplants in vintage pots and pretty and unexpected planters…

Atta Girl Says: Lilies and summer flowers in vase

and of course, I had to add some summer blooms.

Atta Girl Says: Traditional Dining Room with Wainscoting

Let’s make our way into the dining room.

Atta Girl Says: Summer Entertaining in the Dining Room

Feel free to grab a snack.

Atta Girl Says: Easy Summer Wine & Cheese Party Dining Room Tablescape

Of course it’s not too early for a glass of champagne. I’ll never tell. 😉

French Atta Girl Says: Dining Room China Cabinet

Let me take you the “company way,” straight into the formal living room.

Atta Girl Says: living room curtains Ballard Designs Susan Kassler Ikat curtain panels

I’m a big fan of mixing patterns. Can you tell?

And you wouldn’t believe how long it took to piece together that curtain rod and hang those window treatments. But they sure are pretty, aren’t they?

Atta Girl Says: living room with botanical prints and ballard designs susan kassler ikat curtains

I’m pretty proud of  this grouping of bargain botanical art I created.

Atta Girl Says: Yorkie Poo McCoy on Living Room Ottoman

I see you’ve met McCoy, our 14-year-old  yorkie-poodle. We call her the queen of the ottoman empire. This is one of her favorite spots.

Atta Girl Says: Living Room Scandanavian Pink Duncan Phyfe Desk with Pheasant Feather arrangement

See what I mean about painted furniture? I do love my little pink writing desk.

Atta Girl Says: Living Room View of stairs and front door

My house is full of projects — completed and in progress. Those armoire doors are in the completed category.

Atta Girl Says: living room French settee and chalkboard armoire doors

And you’ll never guess what they’re disguising.

Now, it’s time to head into the family hangout part of our house, the keeping room. I have a 6-year-old little boy and I did mention I’m always working on a project, so no telling what this room will look like.

Atta Girl Says: Legos in the Keeping Room

Wait just a minute and let me pick up those Legos. (Actually, that wasn’t a very bad mess at all.)

Atta Girl Says: Decorating with Bird's Nest Fern

But this is better, don’t you think?

Atta Girl Says: Cozy Family Keeping Room

Our house is an open concept, so the keeping room, kitchen and breakfast nook really function as one big space.

Atta Girl Says: Breakfast Nook and Keeping Room
This is the place where we don’t put on airs. The design here is all about cozy comfort. Lounging and playing. And durability. Yes, those are both indoor-outdoor rugs! I have a kid and a dog, remember?

Atta Girl Says: Breakfast Nook

I’ve probably done one too many projects on that kitchen table. It’s on my to-paint list, but I don’t look forward to tackling those Windsor chairs.

Atta Girl Says: Empire Sideboard in Keeping Room

One piece I don’t plan on painting is this antique empire hotel sideboard. It has quite the story.

Atta Girl Says: Black & White Open Concept Kitchen

I don’t have a huge kitchen, but it’s bright and open. And it has the white cabinets that I love.

Atta Girl Says: Black and White Kitchen

Wait a minute, was that the buzzer going off on the dryer? Let”s pop into the laundry room for just a sec.

Atta Girl Says: Watery Blue Cottage Style Laundry Room

OK, that was a ruse to show you my newly renovated laundry room and mudroom.

Atta Girl Says: Build Your Own Washer Dryer Laundry Pedestal with Storage

Don’t you just love all the built-in-storage…

Atta Girl Says: Fabric Cover Bulletin Board & How to Cover an Electrical Panel in Style

and vintage decorating touches. I sure do, especially when you consider what this room used to look like.

Why don’t you pop into the powder room before we continue our tour.

Atta Girl Says: glamorous powder room in silver and gray by AttaGirlSays.com

I think it’s quite elegant, don’t you?

Atta Girl Says: elegant silver and gray powder room with silver damask towels from Tahari at TJ Maxx

I won’t bore you with the details of this powder room makeover now, but you’re welcome to read all about it.

Atta Girl Says Blue and White Master Bedroom and Sitting Room

And this is the master bedroom and sitting room.

Atta Girl Says Master Bedroom Sitting Room Reading Nook

It’s my favorite room in the house.

Atta Girl Says Pretty Tiffany Blue and White Antique Secretary Desk

Again, you can see my love of painted vintage furniture.

Atta Girl Says Cozy Master Bedroom Sitting Room

I could tell you a story about those Target Farrah Fretwork curtains. What an ordeal, finding those and hanging them. But that’s a story for another day.

master bathroom mural

We won’t even talk about the master bathroom. Getting rid of that mural is high on my home projects wish list. I am not responsible for the mural. It was here when we moved in. I’m so desperate for a bathroom makeover, I’ll do just about anything.

Let’s head upstairs now.

Aqua and Pink guest bedroom bed with chevron and damask pillow and greek key blanket

Let’s just peek into the guest bedroom. It’s still a work in progress.

Gest bedroom antique tole flower table

But I do have some fabulous plans for this space.

At least the guest bathroom here is done.

pink and blue ribbon wreath for office

We won’t spend long in my office/craft room either. It is a mess.

Miss Mustard Seed Milk Paint French Enamel Craft Armoire in Office

I should tell you what happened the last time I cleaned it. (Hint: I used a paintbrush.)

Besides, I have plans for this room, too. I just haven’t figured out what they are yet.

But we can stop in my son’s room.

A boy's dream bedroom and playroom at AttaGirlSays.com

It is a little boy’s dream bedroom and playroom, wouldn’t you agree?

Atta Girl Says: Secret Clubhouse in Playroom

The playroom even has a secret clubhouse.

And what mother wouldn’t love all this built-in storage?

Now, this mural I love. (It was here when we bought the house, too.)

I enjoyed taking the tour of your beautiful home today. I had already seen many of the rooms, but somehow I had missed your den with that awesome empire sideboard. 41. Thank you for showing us your gorgeous home. I am in love with your blue painted piece in your front entry and I actually really like your little guest toilet/cloakroom!

  42. Betty819 says:

I think I missed seeing the bedrooms that several people mentioned. Do you mind if I take the tour over. Maybe I missed something else? Your home is beautiful; and I love the way you mix old with new pieces of furniture. You really have a good eye and a talent for decorating; wished you lived near me so I could hire you to help me with mine! Mine’s a much smaller home. My DH always has problems hanging large curtain/drapery rods. He measures and re-measures and somehow regardless of his attempt to make sure it is level, it never turns out that way and then that starts an argument.
Loved so many things about your home. Your guest must love it too!

  43. Thanks for opening your house to all the curious! You have a wonderful home that looks beautiful as well as livable. You are making me want to do a room in blue – and that just won’t fly with the rest of my house!!

  44. I am loving this home tour week, it’s such a treat to see inside of all these creative homes! Your master bedroom is stunning! and what a great play room. Oh yeah, your laundry room is to die for!

  45. Is that Hull pottery? And your dog is McCoy? Are you in need of a twelve-step program, or do you just like pastels? 😉

  46. Your home is amazing!! Love that settee by the stairs too.

  47. I am late to the party, but your home is beautiful!! The floors…wow. I would LOVE a sideboard like the one you have in your family room. GORGEOUS! And no, please do not paint it. Beautiful job!

  48. Your home is absolutely gorgeous!!! Love all the details, well-thought-of home, warm and pretty. Thanks for sharing, I enjoyed the tour!

  49. Seriously! Very clever of you to disguise your thermostat. I am looking forward to meeting you at the Haven Conference next week.

  50. Beautiful home, Amy. Question: Is the Duck Egg buffet chalk paint or milk paint? It’s beautiful! Love the pottery and how you have it arranged. Is that Roseville Pottery? I inherited a few pieces and was considering selling it. After seeing yours, I’m keeping mine!
One more thing, do you mind telling us where you purchased the living room curtains? They look amazing.
Thank you for sharing your home tour!

  51. Beautiful home! Love your staircase, so grand and your master bedroom is so pretty!
Thanks so much for the tour.
    Blessings,
    Cindy

  52. Your home is just beautiful !!! Would love it if you came by and shared it at http://www.onemoretimeevents.com/2013/07/share-it-one-more-time-features-and_27.html… Tammy

  53. You have a beautiful home! Thanks for the tour :)

  54. I have a question about those white cabinets. ….I have white doors throughout my home and I have tried to clean them with everything from plain water, to vinegar. The end result is a permanent stickiness to all of my doors. How do you clean your white cabinets?

Cherie, I’m so sorry for being so late to reply to your question. I was on vacation and then out of town for a conference, and I got behind on replying to comments.

Our white cabinets are actually coated with a thermofoil (which I actually don’t like.) But the one plus is that they’re easier to clean than painted cabinets. They don’t get sticky.

But I know exactly what you’re talking about. I struggle with the same problem with my pantry door and the door leading to our garage (both of which get used a lot.)

I’m thinking we need to use some kind of degreaser, but I haven’t tried one yet. I may put this question to the community at Hometalk.com to see if anyone has any input on that. If I find out a miracle cleaning method, I’ll be sure to let you know.
