What does your foyer decor say about your style? Make a powerful first impression and create a welcoming entryway with furnishings, accessories and colors that let your decorating personality shine.
As soon as you walk into my house, you can learn a lot about me.
A quick look at my foyer decor will tell you that I love vintage pottery, painted furniture, the color aqua, a touch of sparkle, and pretty patterns!

I recently gave the foyer an update for spring with fresh flowers, updated accessories and a brand new rug from Rugs USA that might be the most gorgeous thing I’ve ever seen.
I have been coveting the Chroma Mosaic Medallion Rug since I first saw it at Rugs USA. I originally thought I might use the rug in my office and craft room space, where the color scheme is no-holds barred feminine. But when I rolled it out in the foyer, I knew this was where it belonged.
Because there’s always a place for pink and pastels in a home. And what better time to add it than spring, when gorgeous flowers are in bloom?
I may be outnumbered by a husband, son and male cat. But my decorating definitely has a feminine flair — without being too fussy or frilly or off-putting to the guys. In fact, it was my husband who ultimately decided this rug needed to go in the foyer because it makes such a welcoming statement.
It totally wasn’t because he didn’t want to carry the rug upstairs again to my office! Seriously.
When it comes to foyer decor (and the front porch, too), I begin the decorating process by considering what impression I want to make on our guests.
I want them to feel welcomed and comfortable, while also conveying our love of vintage items, color, pattern and collections.
It’s no accident that one of the first pieces of furniture I ever painted — my prized duck egg blue buffet — sits by the front door. It’s still my favorite, all these years and furniture makeovers later.
The same aqua color seems to find its way into every room in our home, in some form or fashion…
whether it’s a gorgeous rug underfoot, a pretty pattern on a pillow, a mason jar in the kitchen or a piece of vintage pottery on display.
When planning my spring foyer decor, I took cues from the colors in my new rug.
But I also chose the rug because it incorporate the colors and bold use of pattern you’ll find throughout the house.
In that way, this space tells you a lot about our home. It’s eclectic, colorful, collected, traditional without being stuffy, cheerful and well-loved.
Tulips and hyacinths are two of my favorite spring flowers.
They’re such beauties, but there’s an informality to them. Just drop them in a vase and they arrange themselves!
A home always seems more welcoming to me with fresh bouquets and plants throughout.
I think these handmade, handblown glass balls — a gift from my in-laws — are technically Christmas ornaments, but they’re such a pretty pop of color displayed in a chippy terrarium. They’re precious and fragile, but they’re too pretty to hide away in a box for most of the year.
What good is a collection if you can’t put it on display?
I love hanging wreaths in expected places, like from a lampshade or mirror. Boxwoods and magnolia are just the right shade of green for spring.
I hope you’ve enjoyed this look at our spring foyer decor.
