Party Planning Tips: Stock a Party Pantry

Entertaining, Grown-up Parties, Kids' Parties, Sponsored

Disclosure: This post is sponsored by Cost Plus World Market and it contains affiliate links. I only recommend companies and products I love. Read my full disclosure policy here.

Having a party pantry stocked with glassware, linens, serving pieces and other essentials makes party planning a breeze. Invest in quality basics that work with any theme.

I throw a lot of parties, big and small, casual and fancy, for kids and for grownups.

Celebrate champagne and cinema (and gourmet food, too) with these Red Carpet party ideas for the Oscars. #sponsored #worldmarkettribe

While I like to customize the decor and menu for each party I throw, I use a lot of the same basic serving pieces at every event.

If you like vintage style and color, you'll love this vintage Christmas home tour at AttaGirlSays.com. Room after room of inspiration, featuring fabulous vintage finds mixed with modern details. You'll love all the gorgeous fabrics, and the way the homeowners use pattern and color. And if you're crushing on gold, you don't want to miss the living room in this house!

Having a “party pantry” stocked with linens, glasses, trays, cake stands, plates, drinks dispensers and other items really reduces my stress when party planning. I don’t worry about having enough plates or glasses or serving pieces for my guests because I know I have the basics covered, thanks to my party pantry.

In this post, I’m going to walk you through a list of the items I use over and over again for my parties. Many of these items were purchased at my local Cost Plus World Market store in Winston-Salem. It’s my go-to store for party supplies! I head there whenever I’m party planning!

Having a party pantry stocked with glassware, linens, serving pieces and other essentials makes party planning a breeze. Invest in quality basics that work with any theme. #ad #worldmarkettribe

With the Friend and Family sale that runs March 10-13, now is a great time to visit your local store and stock your party pantry. You can save an extra 30 percent on home décor, furniture, entertaining essentials and more. Plus, you can save 10 percent on food and beverages, which sounds like a great excuse to throw a party.

These black and yellow table decoration ideas are so pretty. This color scheme works for a casual summer party or an elegant wedding. And aren't those pinwheel shaped napkins so fancy and festive?

Before we move into my list of party planning favorites, I should note that you don’t need a dedicated space for your “party pantry.” If you have a spare closet, shelf, cabinet or armoire where you can store all your party goods together, that certainly makes things convenient. But it’s not necessary to keep everything together.

    Cake Stands and Tiered Trays

Whether you’re having a cocktail party, buffet, kid’s birthday bash or a sit-down dinner, cake stands and tiered trays come in handy.

    Nutty Glazed Carrot Cake Recipe

They’re perfect for serving cakes and other delicious desserts.

Have you ever tried southern style pecan pralines? This pecan pie cheesecake topping tastes just like them, but it's so much easier to make. Your guests will never guess dessert isn't 100 percent homemade. #ad #saraleedesserts #pmedia

But they’re great for elevating other food, too.

If you live in a temperate climate, invite friends and family over for a Christmas brunch outside. I used simple greenery, galvanized accessories and milk bottles to give our farmhouse table a festive touch.

And adding much-needed height and visual interest to a table.

Set out a tasty spread of classic southern dishes, including Nashville Hot Chicken and Sweet Potato Waffle Bites, mini pecan pies bourbon Cheerwine soda cocktail, to watch "The CMA Awards." #CMAAwards50 #worldmarkettribe #ad

They’re great for buffet service, indoors and out.

I also love to use them as part of my decor.

    Vintage Easter Decor

Here are a few of my favorite cake stands and tiered trays from World Market:

    Serving Trays

Serving trays are another favorite of mine.

Celebrate like the stars with these Oscar party ideas featuring food and decor from World Market. This Oscars party is all about glitz and glamour with a menu modeled after Wolfgang Puck's annual Governors Ball for the Academy Awards.

I certainly use them for serving.

Creative and Clever Captain American Party Ideas for Kids & Adults

But I also love to use them to group items that belong together.

Celebrate summer with these backyard beach party ideas. Click for recipes, crafts, decorations, printables and fun party game ideas that kids will love!

I love using trays to create drinks stations.

Treat the designated drivers at your party like VIPs with a special bar filled with festive and fancy non alcoholic drinks. They'll love all these alcoholi-free "beer" and "wine" options.

    Or food stations.

Summer entertaining should be easy. Think finger foods and no-fuss setup or cleanup. Why not host a sips and dips party in your garden or backyard and serve up chips and vegetables with your favorite dips. Set out some cold drinks, and it's a party. You'll love all the farm party ideas in this simple outdoor gathering. #DipYourWay #ad

When you’re not using them for serving, trays, like this wooden one from World Market, make wonderful home decor.

I own a lot of trays, but you only need a few for your party pantry. Choose a tray in a classic material and color, and you’ll be able to use it at all sorts of parties. If you do a lot of outdoor entertaining, I recommend adding a melamine or galvanized tray for added versatility.

These World Market trays are great options:

    Glassware

Depending on the type of parties you throw, you may want to add some basic glassware to your party pantry.

Holiday entertaining shouldn't be stressful or time consuming. You can shower your guests with hospitality without spending hours in the kitchen. Use these quick and easy party food ideas to pull together a casual cocktail party in minutes using simple snacks and serving pieces. #ad #TalkAboutDelicious

Wine glasses, champagne flutes or coupe glasses are always good to have on hand.

Celebrate champagne and cinema (and gourmet food, too) with these Red Carpet party ideas for the Oscars. #sponsored #worldmarkettribe

Pilsner glasses or mugs are great for beer or sodas.

Set out a tasty spread of classic southern dishes, including Nashville Hot Chicken and Sweet Potato Waffle Bites, mini pecan pies bourbon Cheerwine soda cocktail, to watch "The CMA Awards." #CMAAwards50 #worldmarkettribe #ad

You may also want to consider glassware for specific types of cocktails, like martinis, margaritas and frozen drinks.

Kick your summer cocktail game into overdrive with this frozen tropical lemonade, spiked with homemade infused pineapple rum. And unlike most infused liquors, this fruity rum only takes 10 minutes to make. #ad #worldmarkettribe

Tasting glasses are useful for lots of different events.

Shake up your Memorial Day party and summertime entertaining plans by hosting and chips and salsa and beer tasting party, featuring Food Should Taste Good Tortilla Chips and your favorite dips and brews. Check out menu ideas, pairing suggestions and print a free tasting worksheet for your party guests. #sponsored #FoodShouldTasteGood

For outdoor entertaining and kids party, consider using reusable acrylic glasses instead of throw-away plastic cups.

See how we transformed our boring back yard with the addition of a paver patio and cedar pergola. If you're looking for inspiration and patio decorating ideas, you'll find lots here. We've managed to create a relaxing and inviting outdoor room that we can enjoy throughout the spring, summer and fall.

These are all great glassware options:

    Basic Serving Pieces

If you build a collection of plain ceramic, glass, metal and plastic serving pieces, you’ll be able to use them at all sorts of parties.

For those nights when you're too busy to cook, here's a recipe that is ready in 15 minutes.. Our family enjoys this Italian sausage pasta with mushrooms, onions and asparagus, but you can use any seasonal vegetables you have on hand. And did I mention that it only costs $10 and makes enough to feed six people? Dinner doesn't get much easier. #sponsored

Plain white plates can be dressed up in all different ways.

These bite-sized cream cheese wontons are flavored with homemade pepper jelly. They're great for parties.

I love that they make the food the star!

Celebrate like the stars with these Oscar party ideas featuring food and decor from World Market. This Oscars party is all about glitz and glamour with a menu modeled after Wolfgang Puck's annual Governors Ball for the Academy Awards.

These tasting spoons and tasting plates from World Market are my favorite for serving bite-size foods.

Celebrate like the stars with these Oscar party ideas featuring food and decor from World Market. This Oscars party is all about glitz and glamour with a menu modeled after Wolfgang Puck's annual Governors Ball for the Academy Awards.

And they take up hardly any space in my party pantry!

Clear glass plates and serving pieces are also very versatile. For outdoors for kids’ parties, consider acrylic or melamine serving pieces.

    Chargers

Chargers are one of my favorite ways to dress a party table.

Pink and turquoise are the perfect color combination for a Mother's Day brunch, a spring luncheon or an outdoor wedding. #brightsettingshoa #spon #craftyhangouts

Whether I’m setting a formal table or setting up a buffet, I love using chargers to add a decorative accent.

Celebrate champagne and cinema (and gourmet food, too) with these Red Carpet party ideas for the Oscars. #sponsored #worldmarkettribe

I’ve even used them with paper plates!

I recommend starting with a set of metallic chargers for fancier parties and also a set made from a natural material for more casual events.

    Table linens

I have way too many table linens — must buy all the colors and patterns — but you only need a few basics to start your party pantry.

This adults-only party punch recipe is spiked with bourbon and vodka. The festive combination of flavors is great for a Christmas party or a New Year's Eve celebration.

I recommend buying a solid table runner, a set of buffet napkins in black, white and a favorite color, and a black or white tablecloth.

Are you planning a Star Wars party to celebrate the premiere of "The Force Awakens"? Or maybe you'll be going to one of the midnight screenings. Here are some great Star Wars snack ideas for breakfast. It would be so cool to set up a Star Wars breakfast bar for a kids' sleepover. #ad #awkenyourtastebuds

I like using tablecloths when I’m serving from buffet tables. You can dress them up or dress them down, depending on your party theme.

Turn Dollar Tree gourds in gorgeous Thanksgiving place cards with metallic paint. Copper looks great with traditional fall colors. #sponsored #decoartprojects

I love adding World Market’s buffet napkins to my table settings. They come in every color you can imagine.

In party planning, you can’t go wrong with solid linens or classic patterns like grain sack, gingham or stripes.

These are a few of my favorite linens for your party pantry:

    Drink Dispensers & Party Tubs

I find that drink dispensers and party tubs are especially useful for outdoor parties.

Having a party pantry stocked with glassware, linens, serving pieces and other essentials makes party planning a breeze. Invest in quality basics that work with any theme. #ad #worldmarkettribe
And you really only need one of each, if you choose a classic style.

Inspired by a $2,000 Pottery Barn hutch and server, we built this outdoor buffet table for around $150. A project like this is easier than you think. We are beginners, and this is our first building project!

But if you have room for multiples in your party pantry, the more the merrier!
