Turn faux gourds from the dollar store into gorgeous Thanksgiving place cards with shimmering metallic copper paint.
I am crushing on all things copper this fall.
I’ll be introducing my crush to the family at Thanksgiving with a colorful teal and copper tablescape.
To make everyone feel welcome, I made these simple metallic painted gourd Thanksgiving place cards.
Supplies
- Plastic gourds
- DecoArt Dazzling Metallics Paint in Bronze
- DecoArt Dazzling Metallics Paint in Dark Patina
- Foam paint brush
- paint brush
- Kraft card stock
- leaf pattern
- scissors
- hole punch
- metallic marker
- twine
Whether you’re entertaining two guests or 20, you can very quickly make these Thanksgiving place cards.
I found the miniature gourds at the Dollar Tree on the seasonal aisle. You’ll also find apples, pears and pumpkins that you could use for this project.
To tone down the faux orange color of the gourds, I painted each one with two coats of DecoArt Dazzling Metallics in Bronze using a foam brush.
I just love the shimmer.
Once dry, I brushed the stems with Dazzling Metallics Dark Patina using a stiff-bristled paint brush.
To make the name cards, trace the leaf pattern onto Kraft card stock and cut out with scissors. Or you can use an electronic cutting machine, like a Cricut or a Silhouette, to cut them.
Personalize the leaves using a metallic Sharpie or marker and tie to the gourd stem with thin twine. (I use my Crop-A-Dile Big Bite whenever I need to punch a small hole, like in the stem of the card stock leaves.)
Such a pretty personalized touch for your Thanksgiving table.
I can’t wait to show you the full copper and teal Thanksgiving tablescape soon.
Until then, you might enjoy these Thanksgiving table settings from years past.
