    Vanilla Blueberry Cupcake Soap

    Crafting, Homemade Beauty, Kids' Crafts

collage photo of homemade blueberry vanilla cupcake soap

This homemade cupcake soap is so adorable, and it’s easy to make — just microwave and pour into the mold. The soap smells amazing, too, with a vanilla-scented cupcake and glittery blueberry-scented frosting. Kids will have fun using these cupcake soaps and helping make them.

Let them bathe with cupcake soap!

cupcake soap on a polka dot towel

These soap confections are a fun project to make with kids, and they definitely make bathtime more fun.

I made blueberry and vanilla scented cupcake soap because I happened to have those supplies on hand. But you can use any combination of fragrances/flavors you like by changing up the fragrance oil and color combinations.

cupcake soaps on a cake stand and on top of a polka dot towel

These woud make adorable favors for a spa birthday party. They look so cute in colorful cupcake wrappers.

While these cupcake soaps do require a few more steps than my cactus soaps or popsicle soap, they’re definitely easy enough for first-time soap makers. Just make sure you read through the instructions and supply list before starting.

You can buy soapmaking supplies at craft stores, on Amazon or online at specialty retailers Bramble Berry, which is one of my favorite resources for soapmaking supplies.

    Supplies to Make Homemade Soap

You’ll need the following supplies and ingredients to make homemade cupcake soap.

This post contains affiliate links for your shopping convenience. If you make a purchase based on my referral, I earn a small commission, at no additional cost to you. Read my full disclosure policy here.

mold, fragrance and other supplies to make cupcake soap
    • two medium-sized glass measuring cups or microwave-safe bowls
    • kitchen or postal scale
    • rubber spatula
    • microwave
    • silicone cupcake mold
    • melt and pour soap base
    • soap fragrance (Blueberry Jam for the frosting and Vanilla Select for the cupcake)
    • liquid soap colorant
    • Caribbean Blue color block
    • fine glitter (not glass glitter) or sparkle mica
    • knife
    • graduated plastic droppers
    • isopropyl alcohol in a spray bottle
    • spoon
    • Infrared thermometer (optional, but really helpful when you’re making soap with mix-ins like glitter)

How to Make melt-and-pour Cupcake Soap

For this particular soap recipe, you will need soap-making ingredients in these amounts:

    • 20 ounces of white shea melt-and-pour soap base, divided
    • 5 milliliters of Vanilla Select soap fragrance
    • 5 milliliters of Blueberry Jam soap fragrance
    • 5 ML vanilla color stabilizer
    • 4 drops of yellow liquid soap colorant
    • 1/3 ounce Caribbean Blue color block (You can also use liquid soap colorant)
    • 1/2 teaspoon fine glitter (not glass glitter) or sparkle mica
collage photo of homemade blueberry vanilla cupcake soap

This recipe makes four 5-ounce cupcake-shaped soaps. If you use a different cupcake soap mold than the one I’ve linked here, you may have to adjust the recipe proportions.

Also, if you’re using a fragrance with any vanilla in it, be sure to use an equal amount of vanilla color stabilizer so the soap doesn’t change color over time. The Vanilla Select fragrance I used for the cupcakes disclors in soap over time, but the Blueberry Jam fragrance does not. That’s why the vanilla color stablizer is only used for the cake portion of the cupcake soap.

Also, be aware that some melt-and-pour soap bases harden quicker than others. Because this soap includes mix-ins, I do not recommend using one of the quick-curing soap bases, such as Stephenson’s Ultra Clear Soap Base. It’s harder to work with when your’e adding glitter and other mix-ins to soap or when you’re trying to layer soap.

    Making the Cupcake soap Bottoms

To make the bottom portion of the cupcake soap, melt the soap in one of the measuring cups. Microwave on high in 30-second increments, stirring with a spatula, until the soap is completely melted.

Add four drops of the yellow liquid colorant, stirring until the color is completly incorporated. Use a graduated pipette to add 5 ML of Vanilla Select fragrance to the melted soap, stirring to combine. Add 5 ML of vanilla color stabilizer to the melted soap, stirring to combine.

Vanilla fragrances can discolor or darken soaps over time. The vanilla color stabilizer will prevent this from happening. It should be used in equal proportion to the fragrance oil.

If the soap mixture solidifies some or develops a skin during this process, return to the microwave for 15 to 20 seconds until melted.

pouring melted soap into a cupcake shaped silicon mold

Pour melted, scented, yellow soap into the mold, filling only the cupcake bottoms. Pour almost to the top of the mold without overflowing.

spraying DIY cupcake soap with alcohol to pop bubbles on the surface

Spritz the soap with alcohol to pop any bubbles on the surface.

Set aside the measuring cup and reserve any leftover soap to use to put the two pieces of the cupcake together.

Allow to cool and harden for several hours before moving the mold.

Making the Frosting Tops for the Cupcake Soap

Melt the remaining 10 ounces of soap base. Microwave on high in 30-second increments, stirring with a spatula until completely melted.

woman's hand holding blue soap color block

Add the color block to the melted soap and stir until the block is completely melted and the color is dispersed throughout. You may need to return the soap to the microwave for 15-30 seconds to fully melt the colorant.

blue melted soap in a measuring cup

Add 5 ML of Blueberry Jam fragrance oil to the melted soap and stir to combine.

adding glitter to melted soap to make cupcake soap

Stir in 1/2 teaspoon of fine glitter. Wait until the soap has cooled to 125 to 130 degrees before pouring into the mold. If you pour while the soap is too hot, the glitter may settle in the bottom of the mold.

Pour the blue, glittery soap into the top part of the mold, and spritz with alcohol to pop any bubbles on the surface.

cupcake soaps in a silicon mold

Set aside the measuring cup and reserve any leftover soap to use to put the two pieces of the cupcake together.

Allow to cool and harden for several hours before moving the mold.

    Assembling the Cupcake Soap

Once the soap has fully cured and harden — usually 4 to 5 hours, or overnight, remove the cake and frosting from molds.

top and bottom of diy cupcake soap ready to be put together

Reheat the soap leftover in the measuring cups in the microwave, using 15 seconds bursts until it has melted. You can use either the blue or the yellow soap for this step — whichever you have left.

spritzing cupcake soap with alcohol to assemble

Working quickly, spritz a top and bottom half of a cupcake with alcohol.

spooning melted soap on the base of a cupcake soap

Spoon a small amount of melted soap on the bottom of the cupcake. Spritz with alcohol, then press the frosting side on top. Allow to cool and harden.

Wrap finished soaps in plastic to prevent sweating or glycerin dew from developing on the surface.
