Our front porch is one of my favorite spaces to decorate for Christmas.
I tend to collect things all year round for the porch as I’m shopping at yard sales, antique stores and junking excursions. I’m always on the lookout for things that are vintage and rustic and natural that I can put together to welcome guests to our home.

Today, I’m happy to welcome you to step up on the porch for a look-see as part of the Home for the Holidays Blog Tour, brought to you by Sondra Lyn at Home and co-hosted by Michele from Our Rosey Life.!
I’m one of 25 bloggers who will be sharing Christmas inspiration over five days. Today’s posts are all about Christmas trees and decor, so be sure to click over to see how others are dressing up their homes for the holidays. You’ll find a full lineup of participating bloggers at the end of this post.

I can’t resist using traditional Christmas colors on the porch and a mix of natural and faux greenery.

I dressed my vintage window planter with a berry wreath, shiny red ornaments and clippings from our holly bush.
A pair of artificial trees flanks the front door. I’ve had these for years, and they’re probably due to be replaced if I can find a good deal at an after-Christmas sale. But I dressed them up with a little bit of flocking, some snowball ornaments, my handmade wood slice advent ornaments, and more holly.
Every year, we get a beautiful evergreen wreath from the North Carolina Mountains.

I added some gorgeous red ticking ribbon to dress it up.

From season to season, it’s always a challenge to decide how to fill my porch lanterns.

I love the bursts of red and green.

We have a large front porch, so lots of space to decorate. Lately, I’ve been loving this configuration because it gives us space to entertain. We can fit a lot of people on this porch; we’re just waiting for the first snow so we can throw another hot chocolate party.

Remember how I said I’ve been collecting things to use on the Christmas porch all year long? These are some of those finds.

Vintage ice skates.

A vintage-themed Christmas ornament atop a wooden soda crate.

An old wooden sled with our monogram, plus a vintage pair of wooden skis. You may have spied a set of snowshoes, too.

A tobacco stick star works well with a strand of jingle bells and a pinecone garland.

Some grain sack Christmas trees, made by my friend Janelle of Simply Jannelle Designs, definitely have a vintage vibe.

My neighbor made me this festive arrangement several years ago, and it always seems to “work” on the front porch.

I love how she turned her grandfather’s broken tool into something unexpected and beautiful.
I hope those words also describe my Christmas porch decorations.
My neighbors seem to love them; two families have already had their Christmas photos taken here. I can’t tell you how touched I was when they asked.

Then, of course, I had to steal their idea and pose my son, Jackson, in front of the display. He wasn’t that happy to be dragged away from playing for a photo shoot!

But I managed to cajole a few smiles out of him.

Thanks so much for visiting with me on the porch. I’ll be sharing more Christmas crafts and decorating projects and my complete Christmas home tour soon. In the meantime, you may want to check out my Christmas decorating ideas from last year and the year before.

Amy, I really love all of your creative ideas – from the vintage decor you’ve collected & styled, to the ticking ribbon you’ve added, to all the feeling of home at Christmastime it stirs. Your son is quite handsome as your subject too. Thanks for sharing all your talent.

Thanks so much, Rita. I definitely love Christmas and decorating the house, inside and out. I’ve spent most of today pulling things out of the attic to start decorating.
