I cannot believe it’s almost December. Time to start counting down the days until Christmas!

And I can’t think of a better way than with an advent calendar. But not a typical advent calendar!

They’re hung with handmade wood slice Christmas tree ornaments that are so easy to make.

I didn’t even think a full tutorial was necessary!

Just get your hands on some small birch wood discs (ranging in size from 1.5 inches to 2.5 inches) and paint the centers red. I used DecoArt Americana MultiSurface paint in Barn Red.

Paint each disc with numbers 1 through 24, using white craft paint or a chalkboard marker.

When the paint has dried completely, drill a small pilot hole in the top edge of each disc and add a small screw eye hook. Thread holiday ribbon through the eye hooks and finish with a bow, if desired. (Use hot glue to attach the bows the the ribbon and to hide the screw eye hooks.)

You can add a numbered ornament to the tree every day, or you can hang them all on Dec. 1 and remove one every day until Christmas.

Or do what I’ve done and spread the ornaments around the tree in no particular order and make a game out of hunting for each day’s ornament.

I’m a big fan of wood slice crafts, and I just love these Christmas tree ornaments. I think they’re perfect for our front porch, where I try to keep the decorations natural, simple and vintage in style.
