    Grapevine & Pumpkins Fall Wreath

Crafting, Decorating, Fall Crafts, Fall Decor, Holiday & Seasonal, Holiday & Seasonal Crafts

I’m very excited to be joining with a wonderful group of bloggers today for a new series called Celebrations of Home.

Celebrations of Home: Seasonal Crafts, DIYs & Recipes

We’re a kindred group of creators who share a love of home, holidays and hospitality. Each month, we’ll celebrate a new season or holiday with crafts, DIYs, recipes and decorating projects that we hope will inspire your own creativity and love of home.

Before I share with you my project, celebrating September and fall, I wanted to introduce you to the #CelebrationsOfHome Team:

    • Barb of The Everyday Home
    • Vanessa of At The Picket Fence
    • Debbie of Confessions of a Plate Addict
    • Jennifer of Town & Country Living
    • Debbie of Refresh Restyle
    • Christy of Our Southern Home
    • Suzy of Worthing Court
    • Amy of Atta Girl Says

You’ll find links to all of the fall projects at the end of this post. Be sure to visit. You’ll find everything from door decor to recipes to centerpieces to kitchen decor.

For my project this month, I’m sharing a fall wreath in nontraditional colors and featuring grapevine and painted foiled pumpkins I made .

A lovely fall wreath featuring painted, gilded pumpkins on a grapevine form. I love the nontraditional colors of aqua and lavender.

It was definitely time to switch out the wreath on my front door. I loved my spring flowers wreath so much, I left it up through summer. Oops!

I’m in the process of giving my front porch a sophisticated makeover, thanks to the addition of a new black buffet that I painted and some new furniture cushions and pillows. I wanted my fall decor to match that whole elegant, but unexpected vibe. So, I didn’t want to go for the traditional fall color scheme of orange, red and yellow.

The wreath should give you a hint about the colors I’ll be using: aqua and lavender and dusky green, with touches of brown and copper and gold.

I wish I could give you a step-by-step tutorial of how I made this wreath. But my process is very much trial and error.

I like to hang my wreath on a door and just play, sticking leaves and flowers and floral picks here and there until it looks good.

You’ll see from the photo above that I ended up switching my pumpkins around. I kept trying it with the darker pumpkin on the left, but I just couldn’t make it look right. And then I realized there was too much visual weight, and too many dark colors on the left. So, I swapped the pumpkins and it finally “worked.”

Totally trial and error and lots of fussing and primping.

I probably have about $25 invested in the florals for this wreath. I used a mixed bouquet from Michael’s that included the berries, seed pods, flower and some foliage. I also bought a spray of faux lamb’s ear, and the purple spikes are from a stem I got on clearance at a local shop.

The pumpkins are from Dollar Tree, jazzed up with chalk paint, metallic paint and gold foil. (Here’s the tutorial for these gorgeous pumpkins.

My best advice when you’re making a wreath is to not be scared to cut your stems and bouquets apart, just as a florist might do with live flowers when putting together an arrangement or bouquet.

This will enable you to fill in where you need color or texture, and you’ll be so much more satisfied with the finished result.

And by all means, save those clippings you don’t use for another project. You’ll find that one bouquet or stem goes a long way when you take this approach.
