Master Bedroom Home Tour: Sources & Paint Colors

A beautiful master bedroom and sitting room, decorated in neutral and pale blue tones, with traditional and vintage elements.

Since I shared my favorite room at Savvy Southern Style, I’ve gotten some emails from readers about paint colors in our master bedroom and questions about where I purchased certain items.

So, I thought I’d write a post to answer some of those questions.

Master Bedroom Paint Colors

The bedroom is decorated in shades of blue, and I think it’s quite calming and relaxing. But I opted not to extend the blue theme to the walls.

Instead, I stuck with a neutral. I’m kinda embarrassed  to admit that  I’m pretty sure the color is the original builder beige.

When we moved in two years ago, my plan was to do some touchup painting. But I soon realized that we needed to do more than touch up. However, with boxes still to unpack and lots of decorating before me, I wasn’t ready to commit to custom paint colors for each room. But I also didn’t want to live with scuffed, marked and holey walls. So, we had a painter give the rooms a fresh coat of the original colors.

In the bedroom, the wall color is MAB Mushroom Cream.

I think Sherwin Williams bought MAB. They should have MAB’s old color formulas and can match this color.

The trim in our bedroom is Lyric White, also from MAB.

Moving on to my favorite topic: shopping.

Master Bedroom Decor

Here’s where I found some of the fabulous furnishings and accessories in our master bedroom:

I bought this gorgeous duck egg blue and cream vintage secretary from my friend Kaaren during my trip to Lucketts Market years ago. I’ve actually been thinking of changing the color or replacing the secretary with a mirrored chest. I still like the piece, but my tastes have evolved.

The painted planter on the secretary were vintage finds at a favorite shop in Trinity, N.C., Spade and Broom. The faux hydrangeas in burlap came from Christmas Tree Shops.

We’ve had the artwork above the bed for years. I think it was one of our first “home” purchases as a married couple.

I’m afraid I don’t know who made our bed, nightstands or dresser. My husband had them before we got married — a gift from his parents. The mercury glass lamps were a HomeGoods find

Suited furniture isn’t really my style, but this furniture is too nice to get rid of for no reason. And while the glossy finish isn’t exactly my style, it’s still in good shape. But that’s not to say I won’t paint it someday. (A French gray would be nice, don’t you think?)

The Harbor House Pyrenees bedding set, purchased at Belk, was the design inspiration for the room.

The bird-covered comforter was one of my first purchases when we move into our new home. The embroidered accent pillow is from the same collection. The ruffled porcelain blue linen Euro shams are from Pottery Barn. The matelasse coverlet and shams in the back were both HomeGoods finds.

My curtains are the Farrah Fretwork curtains from Target. That fun pom-pom fringe throw is also a Target find (clearance!)

The bird lamp with the glass shade was from The Red Collection, a huge consignment store in Greensboro, N.C. I’m pretty sure it was a High Point Furniture Market sample.

The little table is a yard sale find that I painted in Annie Sloan Louis Blue. I broke out the chalk paint again — this time Aubusson Blue — on the vintage mirror above the chair.

And speaking of those chairs…

It was love at first sight when I saw these blue-and-white striped chintz French beauties at Coco LaRose, another local consignment store in Greensboro, N.C. These were another furniture market sample. Don’t you want to come shopping with me?

The pretty aqua blue and silver teacup was a long-ago Anthropologie splurge. The spoon is my everyday flatware, Reed & Barton Country French. (How fitting!)

It’s in the blurry background, but there’s a pretty piece of antique Fenton hobnail glass on the table, too.

Do you see those blue glass candleholders on the mantel?

They’re very similar to some pricey Ballard Designs chunky glass candle holders I’d been coveting, but I bought mine for less than half the price  at World Market.

Wondering about the architectural piece above the fireplace (which hides the TV when it’s not in use)? It’s a large sheet of plywood painted a pale blue color (Sorry, I can’t find the shade, but I’ll keep searching) and decorated with a metal plaque from Hobby Lobby.

I’ve swapped the painted board out for an upholstered fabric panel to hide the TV.

The wrought iron floor lamp with the hobnail glass globe and shade decorated with birds is a vintage piece. It came from my favorite place in the world to find antiques and vintage home decor items.
