    Famous Duos Personalized Whiskey Glasses

    Craft Tutorials, Crafting, Sponsored

These personalized whiskey glasses are the perfect handmade gift for your BFF or partner in crime.

Toast your BFF with a set of personalized whiskey glasses engraved with the names of your favorite duo. Options include Thelma and Louise, Harry and Sally, Ross and Rachel, Bonnie and Clyde, Romeo and Juliet and Laverne and Shirley. This is such a simple DIY, and it's so affordable.

You could buy a set for $40 or make a knockoff version for much less, including the cost of your craft supplies.

I’m sharing a simple tutorial to make these glasses today as part of the 5th Annual Handmade Holidays Hop.

Give the gift of #handmade this year. The 5th Annual Handmade Holidays hop, hoted by blog.clearsnap.com, features more than 80+ handmade gifts for any time of the year.

You’ll find links to today’s blogger projects at the end of this post, plus you’ll have the chance to enter to win more than $600 in craft supplies to help you make your holidays homemade.

Thelma & Louise is one of my all-time favorite movies, so when I saw an online ad for these whiskey glasses from Bourbon & Boots, I had to have them.

But I knew it would be easy (and cheap!) to DIY my own version of the personalized whiskey glasses using glass-etching cream and vinyl stencils cut with my Silhouette Cameo.

    Clear whiskey glasses

    DecoArt Easy Etch

    Protective gloves

vinyl stencil (If you have a Silhouette, you can use these free cut files to make your own)

    transfer tape

    plastic knife

    paper towels

    Instructions

Use the free cutting files to create a vinyl stencil with your Silhouette or Cricut machine. I’ve included several famous duos for you to choose from when making your personalized whiskey glasses. You can choose from Thelma and Louise, Ross and Rachel, Laverne and Shirley, Harry and Sally, Bonnie and Clyde or Romeo and Juliet.

Once you’ve cut the vinyl, remove the letters to create a stencil.

Clear the glasses thoroughly with rubbing alcohol and allow to dry completely.

Apply transfer tape to the front of the stencil and peel off the paper backing. Apply the stencil to the glass using the transfer tape.

Peel off the transfer tape, leaving the stencil on the glass. Be sure to press the sticky vinyl to remove any air bubbles and to make sure the areas around the letters are tightly adhered to the glass.

While wearing protective gloves, use the plastic knife to scoop the etching cream out of the jar and apply a thick coat on top of the stencils. Be careful not to get any etching cream elsewhere on the glass, just on the letters.

Allow the etching cream to sit for at least 15 minutes. (Unlike most etching creams, DecoArt’s Easy Etch does not contain hydrofluoric acid, so it’s very low-odor.)

After 15 minutes, use the knife to scrape the etching cream off the glass and return it to the jar. Yep, this stuff is reusable, unlike other etching creams.

Once you have removed most of the etching cream, use a wet paper towel to carefully wipe off any that remains.

Rinse the glass thoroughly in cold water, then remove the stencil. Clean the glass and dry.

And it’s as easy as that! The glass is permanently etched where you applied the cream.

I used whiskey glasses from the dollar store, so this was a really affordable project.

But when they’re personalized (and perhaps presented with a bottle of whiskey or bourbon), they make an awesome gift for a host or hostess — or for the Thelma to your Louise or the Romeo to your Juliet.
