You’ve been warned…

Gothic, Ghastly & Gory: Halloween Decorating Ideas from Atta Girl Says

Our last guests didn’t fare so well.

Gothic, Ghastly & Gory: Halloween Decorating Ideas from Atta Girl Says

We so rarely have guests, and when we do, they never return.

All Things Home Halloween Showcase

Such a shame, too, as the house is all decorated for the All Things Home Halloween Showcase, where 15 bloggers are sharing their Halloween decorating ideas, recipes, crafts and general mayhem and mischief.

Hotel of Horrors: Macabre Halloween Decorating Ideas from Atta Girl Says

Welcome to our Halloween Hotel of Horror. (Can you tell I’ve had “Hotel California” running through my head all week?)

Hotel of Horrors: Macabre Halloween Decorating Ideas from Atta Girl Says

The table is all set for a feast.

Hotel of Horrors: Macabre Halloween Decorating Ideas from Atta Girl Says

Having you for to dinner will be a real treat…

Hotel of Horrors: Macabre Halloween Decorating Ideas from Atta Girl Says

Please take a seat…

Hotel of Horrors: Macabre Halloween Decorating Ideas from Atta Girl Says

Anywhere you like.

Hotel of Horrors: Macabre Halloween Decorating Ideas from Atta Girl Says

Well, maybe not there.

Hotel of Horrors: Macabre Halloween Decorating Ideas from Atta Girl Says

And the ghosts and poltergeists can get a little upset if someone takes their spot.

Hotel of Horrors: Macabre Halloween Decorating Ideas from Atta Girl Says

I hope you like (blood) red wine. It’s the only thing we drink here!

Hotel of Horrors: Macabre Halloween Decorating Ideas from Atta Girl Says

And I do hope you like organ meats.

Hotel of Horrors: Macabre Halloween Decorating Ideas from Atta Girl Says

If not, perhaps you would prefer something under glass. It’s cook’s speciality.

Hotel of Horrors: Macabre Halloween Decorating Ideas from Atta Girl Says

We don’t have pheasant under glass, but we have some other nice selections.

Come now, let’s return to the table.

Hotel of Horrors: Macabre Halloween Decorating Ideas from Atta Girl Says

It’s getting late, and the candles are melting away.

Hotel of Horrors: Macabre Halloween Decorating Ideas from Atta Girl Says

You wouldn’t like it when it gets dark here.

Our last guest didn’t survive the fright.

Hotel of Horrors: Macabre Halloween Decorating Ideas from Atta Girl Says

May he rest in peace.

Hotel of Horrors: Macabre Halloween Decorating Ideas from Atta Girl Says

Poor man. Those roses are souvenirs keepsakes from his grave.

I hope we did not tarry too long at dinner, dear visitor.

Southern Gothic Decorating Ideas from Atta Girl Says

I’d like to show you around the rest of our home.

Southern Gothic Decorating Ideas from Atta Girl Says

Do you like to read, dear guest?

Southern Gothic Halloween Decorating Ideas from Atta Girl Says
The classics, perhaps?

Southern Gothic Halloween Decorating Ideas from Atta Girl Says

Or maybe Edgar Allan Poe?

Southern Gothic Halloween Decorating Ideas from Atta Girl Says

I do enjoy his stories. But the man was quite mad. And I did not like how he disparaged the raven. Nevermore, Mr. Poe. Nevermore!

Southern Gothic Halloween Decorating Ideas from Atta Girl Says

I keep a few ravens myself. Crows, too. They make wonderful pets.

Southern Gothic Decorating Ideas from Atta Girl Says

I enjoy all of God’s creatures.

Southern Gothic Decorating Ideas from Atta Girl Says

Brr. Did you feel a chill?

Southern Gothic Decorating Ideas from Atta Girl Says

It felt like someone was walking across my grave.

Southern Gothic Halloween Decorating Ideas from Atta Girl Says

Strange things happen in this house.

Gothic, Ghastly & Gory: Halloween Decorating Ideas from Atta Girl Says

Sometimes I feel as if someone is trying to send me a message.

Southern Gothic Halloween Decorating Ideas from Atta Girl Says

But I am sure it’s just my imagination.

Before you leave, there’s someone I want you to meet.

My progeny.

We’ll find him outside…

Tending to his bats…

…in his Playhouse of Horrors.

Jackson's Playhouse of Horror's Halloween Decor at Atta Girl Says

He’s so good with the bats.

And yes, they are vampire bats. But they only bite at night.

Jackson's Playhouse of Horror's Halloween Decor at Atta Girl Says

My boy is such an angel, as you can see.

But I do wish he would keep his lair clean.

Jackson's Playhouse of Horror's Halloween Decor at Atta Girl Says

We have a little bit of a rat problem.

Jackson's Playhouse of Horror's Halloween Decor at Atta Girl Says

The zombies are bad here, too.

Jackson's Playhouse of Horror's Halloween Decor at Atta Girl Says

But we’ve devised a way to keep them out…

…for now.

I have kept you for far too long. Though, if I had my way, you would never leave.

  1. Love it!–so much fun–exactly the type of thing I used to do when my kids were young. We had such fun at Halloween.

You are the coolest. I bet your kids loved Halloween.

It’s the one time of the year when I can get Bruce & Jackson on board with decorating with me. They cooperate, grudgingly, at other times. But at Halloween, they actually enjoy that I’m a crazy decorating lady.

  2. I’ve never done scary, probably because I’m a creeped out too much BUT you did a great job! I love that is all black and white, with a dash of blood, I mean red. ~Sonya

  3. Girl, you just scared the mess out of me! Amazingly spooky decorating!!! Love!! ~Christy

  4. Looks great! The playhouse and the boy vampire are the scariest!!! you can tell him that….he’ll love it! LOL

  5. Wow, Amy! You did such an awesome job! I don’t believe that I’ll be coming to dinner though. 😉 Great idea to Halloweenify Jackson’s playhouse too.

I can’t believe you’re passing on my dinner invitation.

But if there’s a zombie apocalypse, you’re welcome to come bunk up with us at Jackson’s Playhouse of Horror.

And speaking of zombies, I cannot wait for The Walking Dead to return on Sunday. Thanks for getting me hooked. Who do you think it is that keeps saying, “Help me” in the commercials?

  6. FUN! WOW you really go all out. My boys are older now so they don’t get their spook on much anymore. But I still love it. Everything looks great Amy!

So, they’re in that age where they’re too cool to like Halloween. Don’t worry, they’ll get back into it soon enough. I just hope they don’t drag you to haunted houses. As much as I like Halloween, I really don’t like going to haunted houses. :)

  7. scared the crap out of me!! :)

  8. The Adams family would be proud!!!..

  9. Love it all — especially the play house of horrors!!!! Maybe I should include my teen daughter’s room of horrors in my tour! Hahahaha!

    :) Linda

Now, that would really be scary, Linda. If your daughter’s room looks anything like mine did when I was a teenager, then people are going to run screaming in horror.

  10. Okay…I’ve gotta say…that was a little freaky! But I loved it! Halloween is so awesome. Great tour!

I stopped myself before I painted my fingernails black and dyed my hair black, like Morticia Adams. Glad you enjoyed the tour. I had a blast decorating for Halloween.

  11. Oh.my.word. Did you leave any decorations for the rest of the shoppers at Michael’s and Dollar Tree? Your tour is utterly amazing. Perfectly accessorized as always. Great job my friend!

Thank you, Marty. And I really didn’t buy much this year. I have bins and bins of Halloween stuff, and the rest is from my regular “stash” of decor. I don’t have quite as many Halloween bins as Christmas ones in the attic, but it’s close.

  12. Amazing attention to detail and love your black and white theme, which looks great with your blue buffet. Love the “Help Us” letters! Just love all of this!

Thanks, Jennifer. I’ve learned from folks like you and Barb and my other favorite bloggers that decorating really is all about the details.

  13. Girl I absolutely love EVERYthing!!! I want to come to the Hotel of AttaGirl!!

  14. You’re the master of spooky! Wow!

  15. Amy, you rock the Halloween thing! I love every little bit! And, I really want to come over and dine at your terrifying table. It’s eerily Beautiful!
    Happy Haunting!

It all started with those little ram plates. I found them for $2 at my favorite local shop and knew I had to have them for my Halloween decorating. I’m hoping to do a blog post on that store soon; she has some amazing vintage Halloween decor. i’ve bought a lot of my props from her.

  16. Wow. It all looks so amazing! I really love the “help us” and everything on the buffet in the dining room. Thanks for all the fabulous inspiration!

Aww, thanks, Angie. I had fun coming up with all those little details. And clearly, I watch too many scary shows and movies and have read too much Stephen King.

  17. Everything is just the cutest. I love it all. You did a fantastic job with halloween. Hugs, marty

  18. Amy, I love it all. You really did do an awesome job. I can tell you love Halloween. A kindred spirit for sure..And your Jackson did a great job with his lair too.

Thanks, Tammy. I can’t wait to see your tour. I was blown away by your Halloween decor last year.

When you move back to NC, we must head to Chapel Hill on Halloween! Some of the best costume inspiration ever.

  19. Amy, you are over-the-top with this frightful tour! Oh my I don’t know if I can make it for dinner… I’m a little under the weather (or under the covers…. hiding)!
Every scary detail so ghoulishly done!
You are the queen of Halloween!

Thanks, Kathysue. We had a blast decorating for Halloween as a family.

My son actually has some more kid-friendly Halloween decor in his room, and we had to act out an entire mad scientist scene over the weekend. I was the crazy Frankenstein creature locked in the closet, and my husband was the doomed traveler!

Clearly, we have created a monster.

  21. That is one scary house. Love it! I think my favorite part was the dead roses on the dining room table. You did good!

Thanks, Pam. Those roses were leftover from the anniversary bouquet my husband gave me. Since I failed to toss them before they died, I thought I would “repurpose” them.

  22. You did an amazing job!!! Loved your spooky tour 😉 I’m sharing on my FB page today!

Thanks so much, Jamie. I think it was all those Stephen King novels I read as a teenager and my obsession with the original teen vampire movie, “The Lost Boys.”

  23. You have so much wonderful Halloween inspiration!!!

I host a weekly link party called Seasonal Sundays and would love to have you link your post. The post goes up at 7 pm EST on Saturday evening.

  24. wow Amy! Just waw. That was impressive! What a fun and spooky Halloween display…

  25. Amy!!! You did a Fantastic job! I LOVE the billiard balls “help us” so awesome. Your whole tour was amazing!

  26. Very fun blog post! I really enjoyed everything. I like the dominoes included in the decor – hadn’t seen that yet. Your boy is just adorable. Halloween is such fun at your house!

  27. What fabulous décor and great commentary! I enjoyed your post so much. Love that mercury glass skull, and in spite of the fear I felt, your table looks very elegant. Love the “help us” spelled out with the balls. Your son is adorable, and he obviously takes after his mother. His H’ween décor is great too. I loved all of this! laurie

  28. Love ALL your horrifying vignettes!!

  29. I can’t decide what I like best- you have so many awesome spooky details! Looks like it will be Happy and scary Halloween in your house this year.

  30. I’m suitably scared Amy.
Being an Aussie I’ve never experienced Halloween and this is the first year I’ve got interested in it…. and I think I may just be scarred for life. I’ve got goose-bumps! Love your dark and haunting dining room, but the rat kind of freaks me out…. it looks so real.

  31. Awesome tour! I love the decorations! Happy Haunting! Leena

  32. This is the best Halloween house tour! Love your narrative. It makes me want to NEVER visit. But secretly, I want to come for dinner, well you know, not be eaten for dinner! :-)
