Ultimate Scaredy Squirrel Birthday Party

When Scaredy Squirrel threw himself a birthday party, things did not go as planned!

But Jackson’s Ultimate Scaredy Squirrel Birthday Party went off without a hitch on Saturday. Perfect weather. Adorable kids. Yummy cake. Lots of fun!

In case you’re not familiar, Scaredy Squirrel is the adorable but anxious star of a series of books by Melanie Watt. They’re my 6-year-old son’s favorite books, and he thinks Melanie Watt is the funniest author ever! So, of course, he wanted to have a Scaredy Squirrel birthday party.

As Scaredy will tell you, the secret to a successful party is all in the details. (Scaredy, I often tell my husband that, too! Great minds do think alike.)

We used lots of details from the Scaredy Squirrel books to make Jackson’s at-home, backyard birthday party a success. But I doubt Scaredy would have enjoyed being a guest because those details included lots of things that Scaredy is afraid of, like pinatas, killer bees, confetti and big-footed daddies.

I shared some of our Scaredy Squirrel party details and a few photos from the actual event, too!

I adapted the party invitations from some free printables available from KidsCanPress, the publisher of the Scaredy Squirrel books.

Scaredy Squirrel thought we needed to set a few ground rules for the party.

Some guests took the rules seriously, including Louise who wore earmuffs!

Ours was a germ-free party, per Scaredy’s rules.

And there was no double dipping allowed. Thank goodness!

Ant’s weren’t invited either!

But somehow, a piñata slipped past security.

 

Some crepe paper jellyfish made their way into the Unknown outside of the nut tree. They must have come from “Scaredy Squirrel at the Beach.”

We had killer bees, too, thanks to Jackson’s nana. But luckily no one was stung.

And there was confetti…

…lots of confetti. But it was biodegradable eco confetti, so it washed away in Saturday night’s rain storm.

A party is not a party without cake, and Jackson’s was made by the fabulous Maxie B’s in Greensboro, N.C.

Maxie B’s did an amazing job, as always!

We also had some nutty treats — cake ball acorns by Cover Me Sweets in Greensboro, N.C. and some homemade acorn snacks made with Hershey’s kisses, mini vanilla wafers, frosting and butterscotch chips.

Guests got to make their own favor bags, which they filled with candy, Squinkies, little toys and Scaredy Squirrel printables and activity sheets from the publisher. (I had planned to make Emergency Kits from the first Scaredy Squirrel book for every guest, but when our RSVP list reached 30 kids, I changed plans in favor of something less time consuming. And I really think the kids enjoyed making their own favors. And it was SO much easier for me.)

Despite the perils all around, Scaredy Squirrel even showed up at Jackson’s party. His Nana and Bob-Bob gave him this Scaredy Squirrel puppet. And Nana made this awesome Scaredy Squirrel jacket. Isn’t it the coolest thing ever? Now you know where I get my craftiness from.

 

I just hope Scaredy Squirrel doesn’t see what’s on the back of the jacket!

After his guests left, the birthday boy took some time to read his cards and open his presents. We all had a blast — and I think our guests did, too. I think it’s safe to say that this was Jackson’s best birthday ever (until next year) and that this was the ultimate Scaredy Squirrel birthday party.

Uh-oh. Jackson just informed me we have to do this entire party over again on Oct. 3.. That’s Scaredy Orville Squirrel’s birthday party! Who will be celebrating with us?
