R2-D2 Star Wars Party Favors Craft

$5 Crafts, Crafting, Kids' Crafts, Printables

When we had Jackson’s epic Star Wars birthday party, we wanted to send guests home with goodie bags filled with things that wouldn’t go straight in the trash can.

Free printable and template to make this fun R2-D2 craft. These make great Star Wars party favors.

Inspired by an idea from another blogger, we gave each party guest their own R2-D2 Design a Droid craft kit. I also made a free printable and template so you can make your own Star Wars party favors.

You’ll also need the template for R2-D2’s head, legs and buttons. Click here for the free template.

If you have a Silhouette Cameo or Portrait cutting machine, you can make up a bunch of these in no time at all. (If you purchase through my affiliate link and others in this post, I will earn a small referral fee.)

I’m including a cut file that you can use with your Silhouette machine. You can download it here.

You can use any 4X6-inch photo frame for this craft, but it looks most authentic when you use an Ikea Tolsby frame. They’re just $1 each, so these really are affordable Star Wars party favors.

We packaged all the bits and pieces for the R2-D2 craft in clear cellophane bags. Be sure to include a piece of white card stock cut to fit the frame, plus a glue stick, double-stick tape or mounting squares so your party guests have all the supplies they need to design their droids.

Kids have all kinds of options for how to use their droids. They can decorate the card stock to create Star Wars themed artwork for their room.

The frames have plastic inserts, so they make great dry-erase message boards.

      Wow!

I appreciate such a detailed reply. I don’t need the file for another month and am using a Cricut. That should give me plenty of time to figure out how to convert the file to svg and then ungroup the elements in the design space.

Thanks for your time and generosity 🙂

      Best,

      Mel

      Hi!

I love this party and thanks for sharing the R2-D2 file! 🙂
I’m not the most creative person and am new to the whole “cut machine” world. Can you help clarify something please? I notice that the “buttons” appear in the image twice. Once on the silver dome ( R2’s head) and another time underneath. Why are there 2 sets of these buttons? Also, will the machine cut out the buttons that are in the dome and thus leave cut holes in it?

Not sure I’m being clear here but thanks for your help/advice/time 😀

Hi Mel. I’m travleling this week and don’t have access to my Silhouette profram and cut files. But i will try to help answer your questions. I probably left the buttons on the dome just to show positioning. They probabalh will cut if you leave them, do just click on each one to remove. You may havr to right click on the dome first and select Ungroup and then delete the buttons on the dome. What I did when I made my R2D2 favors (since i was makkng so many) was to copy the dome multiple times in one file, then thrnlegs in another dile, the buttons in another one and so forth. Basically, create a new file for each element by color since you will be cutting each part of r2d2 from different colors of paper.

Another thing, Mel. Depending on how soon you need these, I can send you separate cut files for each part of thr droid. But I won’t be able to do that until next week. Hope my reply was helpful. Please deel free to email with additional questions

I’m so glad you were able to use the cut files for your droids. I hope they were a hit with your little crafters.
