I used vintage and rustic Christmas decor to transform our stone fireplace mantel and hearth into a cozy and warm focal point for the holidays.

Grab a seat and kick your feet up and enjoy my favorite spot in the house.

When I need to relax, I settle into my denim club chair in the keeping room. I kick my feet up, cover myself with a cable knit blanket and enjoy the warmth from our gorgeous stone fireplace.

Now that the hearth and mantel are decorated for Christmas, I’m really enjoying the view.

Beautiful Christmas Mantels Across America

I’m excited to be sharing my holiday fireplace decor today as part of the Christmas Mantels Around America tour sponsored by Suzy of Worthing Court. I’m proud to be representing my home state of North Carolina in the tour.

If you haven’t decorated your fireplace yet, you’re sure to be inspired by all the beautiful mantels on display.

I’ve always envisioned our small keeping room as sort of a cozy lodge — a welcoming, comfortable, put-your-feet-up kind of space. That’s certainly how we live in this room, which is right off our kitchen. It is our main family hangout.

As I’m decorating rooms for Christmas, I usually have a theme in mind. In this room, I kept coming back to the concept of a lodge or manor house, filled with a mix of traditional, dark wooden furniture, plaid and buffalo check patterns, and rustic Christmas decor.

This little ornament, which hangs in our flocked twig tree, pretty much epitomizes the theme.

Our fireplace, especially the mantel, can be a bit tricky to decorate because there’s a TV cabinet above it. I can’t go too overboard with garlands because the remote won’t work, and it makes it tricky to open and close the cabinet doors.

So, I just added a simple faux pine cone garland, a pair of candlesticks and a vintage Christmas bunting to the mantel.

To the hearth, I added lots of rustic Christmas decor, including a trio of lanterns and an amazing European dough bowl I bought at a barn sale.

The lanterns usually make an appearance on my Christmas porch. But I decided to bring them inside this year and fill them with greenery and various items — an angel, a red candle and oversized red and black ornaments.

The red and black ornaments mimic the color scheme of the buffalo check ornaments I used on the tree.

There is a method to my decorating madness!

And let’s talk about that rustic wooden dough bowl. I’m pretty sure it’s found a permanent spot on the hearth. It is gorgeous and totally worth what I splurged on it!

To fill it for Christmas, I coiled a pine cone garland inside, added a few ornaments, some antlers, a spray of snow-covered berries and a pair of nesting owls.

I hope you’ve enjoyed my holiday mantel and the sneak peek of the rustic Christmas decor in our keeping room. I’ll be sharing more photos and details of this space during my complete Christmas home tour, later this week.
