Celebrate champagne and cinema (and gourmet food, too) with these Red Carpet party ideas for the Oscars.
While I’m mostly a comfy, casual kind of gal, I do enjoy breaking out my heels, sequined handbags and sparkliest jewelry and putting on the Ritz every now and again. I think that’s why I love awards shows, like the Oscars, so much. It’s glitz and glam overload.
And for those of us watching at home, it’s an excuse to enjoy some gourmet snacks and get tipsy on champagne.
Ooh, the bubbles…
If you’re planning an Oscars viewing party, a trip to World Market is all it takes to get your home Red Carpet ready. It’s a one-stop shop for Oscar entertaining essentials. You’ll find an assortment of gourmet food, drinks and decor you need to throw a fancy Champagne & Cinema fete in golden, glittery Hollywood style.
And the best thing about this party is that there’s very little hands-on kitchen prep required. It’s all about the presentation and the tiny details.
I started with some mini Freixenet Cordon Negro Brut Mini Sparkling Wine bottles and dressed them up with World Market gold star ribbon, as well as bowties and glittery buttons from the craft store.
Next, I put out an assortment of fresh fruit and juices for guests to mix their own champagne cocktails.
The Tulip Tasting Shot Glasses and the Teardrop Tasting Shot Glasses are perfect for this.
The mix-in selections included Ceres Medley of Fruits Juice, Fruit of the Nile Strawberry Guava Nectar, orange juice, pomegranate juice, Barsmith Honey Ginger Syrup
Barsmith Grenadine Syrup, Soiree Maraschino Cherries, blueberries, strawberries, mango slices, raspberries and blackberries.
The Gold Mirrored Tabletop Tray kept extra mixers handy on my antique bar cart.
To add more drama to my party setup, I also set up a small champagne tower by stacking Speakeasy Champagne Saucer Glasses on a Gold Square Rimmed Charger.
It takes about 1 ½ bottles of sparkling wine to fill five glasses, so I chose the mid-priced Segura Viudas Brut for the fountain. But you can use any champagne, sparkling wine or sparkling juice you like.
While fluted champagne glasses are great for entertaining, you need coupe-style glasses for a champagne tower. Always set the glasses up on a sturdy surface, like your kitchen counter or dining room table, and arrange the glasses so that the rims are touching. Stack additional glasses on top of the base layer, centering each stem over the diamond-shaped gap where the glasses meet.
For my two-tiered, five-glass tower, I arranged the glasses on a charger. But for a taller tower using more glasses, place them directly on the table to ensure stability.
Now for the party trick, begin slowly filling the champagne glasses, pouring from the top and allowing the champagne to trickle over and fill the glasses below it.
Cheers!
Now that the bar is Oscar-ready, we can turn our attention to the party menu. I focused on fancy finger foods from World Market’s eclectic assortment of gourmet goodies. Roam the aisles and you’ll find so many options for Oscar party appetizers. Most everything I purchased was already prepared, so all I had to do was focus on presentation.
The tiny bit of “cooking” I did was minimal – little more than pouring and mixing!
For your consideration, World Market Popcorn served in Gold Metallic Favor Bags.
I added a chalkboard tag (available in stores) to each individual bag, and dressed them up with gold curling ribbon, glittery tape and gold markers.
I love offering my guests individually portioned snacks. It definitely makes a party feel more elegant. To keep the table from looking messy, I used Gold Fluted Chargers and Gold Square Rimmed Chargers as serving platters.
Instead of setting out a plate of cheese, I filled Square Chevron Loaf Cups (available in stores) with Lactoprot Brie wedges and Carr’s Cheese Melts. A knife from the Gold Metallic Stamped Wood Cutlery Set completes the presentation.
Gold metallic cupcake liners (available in stores) are a great way to serve French Butter Cookies with Lemon & Almond (also available in stores) and Walkers Shortbread Rounds.
Crystallized Ginger candy is good for snacking, but it also makes a zinger of a cocktail.
Just drop a piece or two in the bottom of a champagne glass, then add one part Barsmith Honey Ginger Syrup and three parts champagne.
Rounding out the savory snacks, I served Cucina & Amore Artichoke Bruschetta with Carr’s Assorted Biscuits and Pairwell Wine Sticks (available in stores).
Guests also enjoyed noshing on Sticky Fingers Buttermilk Cheddar Herb Biscuits, made from a baking mix available in World Market stores. Rather than just setting out a plate of biscuits, I served them individually in Mini White Porcelain Square Tasting Plates. I dressed them up with some Oscar statuette confetti leftover from last year’s Oscars party.
No champagne party is complete without chocolate.
I served Terry’s Chocolate Oranges on individual tasting spoons.
I also whipped up some boozy chocolate mousse cups using my favorite ChocoMaker Belgian Chocolate Dessert Cups and Mousse mix, which is available in World Market stores.
As fancy as these look, they are so easy to make. I dressed them up a bit by adding some orange-flavored liqueur and a fruit garnish.
- 1 package ChocoMaker Belgian Chocolate Dessert Cups and Mousse mix
- 1 Tablespoon Water
- 1/2 cup heavy cream
- 1 Tablespoon orange-flavored liquor, such as Grand Marnier or Cointreau
- raspberries, for garnish
- mandarin orange slices, for garnish
- mint leaves, for garnish
- Add 1 Tablespoon of water to the powdered chocolate mix, per the package directions, and stir until combined.
- Then add ½ cup heavy cream plus 1 Tablespoon orange-flavored liquor, such as Cointreau or Grand Marnier, and whip with an electric mixer until peaks form.
- Spoon or pipe the mousse into cool chocolate cups and garnish with mandarin orange slices, raspberries and mint.
- Store in the refrigerator until ready to serve, but no longer than a day.
World Market really does make it easy to pull together an award-winning Oscars party.
