I have the Midas touch.
It seems I can’t touch anything without wanting to make it gold or silver or copper…
My friend, Sara, from Major Hoff Takes a Wife challenged a bunch of bloggers to see what we could make with liquid gilding.
This stuff. Precious metal in a bottle.
You can find a link to all the liquid gilding projects at the end of this post.
Metallic paint is great, but this stuff is on a completely different level. It really is like you’re brushing on gold (or silver or copper or brass).
There’s a depth to the color and finish that you just can’t get with paint.
I had a already had a bottle of the Martha Stewart Brass Liquid Gilding from my gilded seashells project. (Sadly, I think this color has been discontinued.) But I picked up a few more colors at the craft store: Martha Stewart Gold Liquid Gilding, Plaid Liquid Leaf Silver and Plaid Liquid Leaf Florentine Gold, which has a coppery look. (To make it easier for you, I’m including the links to these products on Amazon.)
I painted the liquid leaf onto some faux fall leaves I bought from the dollar store.
This stuff covers like magic. You only need one coat.
I do recommend using an older paint brush, and be sure to wash it as soon as you finish the project. Liquid leaf drives really quickly.
Since I’m using a lot of metallics in my fall decor this year, I decided to hang my leaves on the silver tree I have in my entryway.
I added some velvet pumpkins at the base of the tree.
I just hot glued some jute twine to the back of each leaf to hang them.
I love all the different colors — like nature, only shinier!
I love that when the light shines through some of the leaves, you can still see some of the natural color where I didn’t apply the liquid gilding as thickly. Those leaves look like they’re still in the process of turning.
I love all things gilded and metallic, and I can’t wait to use the liquid leaf on other projects.
If you love this look as much as I do, be sure to check out these posts:
And coming soon…

Oh my goodness! You really had done several projects with it! That garland is so amazing! I love the leaves so much! Now I see why those ancient people wanted cities of gold, haha!
