A bouquet of bright yellow grocery store flowers provided the inspiration…
… and a beautiful pop of summer sunshine for a weekend family brunch.
As much as I love throwing parties and inviting guests to our home, my favorite people to entertain are those who are closest to me. There’s something extra special about elevating an everyday meal into an “occasion” by cooking something special and setting a pretty table.
For this family meal, served with love, I was aiming for elegant, summery, bright and airy, but not too fancy.
I chose gorgeous, easy-care table linens from Bright Settings. Because my people are messy. I need table linens that I can throw in the washer and dryer, without having to iron or fuss over them.
The black-and-white polycheck tablecloth is a custom size, made to fit my oval kitchen table. I paired it with lemon yellow basic polyester napkins, one of 72 colors available from Bright Settings.
The square luncheon napkins were perfect for my pinwheel napkin fold.
Before I show you more details of the table, let’s take a brief Crafty Hangouts video interlude so I can tell you more about the essential elements of a beautiful tablescape. #BrightSettingsHOA
It’s actually pretty simple.
As I mentioned in the video, I used a round woven placemat, topped with a black glass charger and white dinner plates.
Place cards are always a nice touch.
They say I was expecting you and hoping you would come share a meal.
And every table can use a bit of whimsy.
These bumblebee candies provide that, and they match the color scheme, too.
Plastic yellow straws provide another pop of color. So would a bowl of lemon slices. Easy and useful!
As for centerpieces, you don’t need to do anything costly or elaborate.
Grocery store flowers lined up in a row of glass bottles will do just find. Plus, you can see over them, and there’s still room on the table for the food, if you’re planning to serve family style.

And don’t miss that tutorial for how to fold napkins into pinwheels.
It’s my new favorite fold.
