We had a glorious Sunday, and I hope you did, too.
It was an absolutely gorgeous day. Last week’s sweltering heat finally broke, and a nice fall breeze blew in. The best thing about the day was we had absolutely nothing we had to do.
So, we spent our day lazing around, puttering, reading, crunching around in the leaves, working on a few family craft projects and decorating for Halloween and fall.
It was the perfect day to enjoy a nice homecooked meal together (after Sunday lunch of frozen pizza, served in front of the TV).
I was inspired to create a beautiful casual fall tablescape to match the beautiful day.
These owl glasses, which I bought at Melville Trading Company, were the inspiration for the table design. Aren’t they just the cutest?
Instead of using a tablecloth, I covered the table with overlapping sheets of faux bois wrapping paper (a Target after-Christmas clearance find!)
A gold filigree leaf placemat from Marshall’s is topped with an orange Dollar Tree plate, a cream plate, a toile napkin from Pottery Barn (a thrift store find!) and green ramekins that were a wedding gift.
My husband and son collected the fall leaves that I scattered on the table…
… and the branches I used in the centerpiece.
My pumpkin soup tureen is quite the versatile piece. Not only do I serve delicious homemade soups and stews from it, like my easy slow cooker Brunswick stew, but I also dish Halloween candy and our favorite Autumn candy-coated cereal mix from it.
This tablescape only took a few minutes to put together, but it made a routine dinnertime special. It was such a wonderful way to celebrate the bounty of nature, the glorious change of seasons and the gift of a Sunday with family.
Here’s hoping the rest of the week will be as sweet.

The paper is a genius idea for your table! It all looks totally lovely and fall, but most of all I loved what you said about chillaxing with your family and making the meal just a little special!

Love the wrapping paper….great table!

Forgot to mention. Yes, I’ve sunk a fortune into pumpkins…….need more!! Can you float me a loan?

Amy, You mentioned a lot of my loves here…..owls, Marshalls, Pottery Barn….need I go on. I love all your fall decor. I’ve been following your fall decorating posts but am remiss on commenting. I am overworked and overbooked like every blogger out here! Thanks for stopping by and commenting on my mantel. Have a great week!

No worries, Kathy. I am the worst commenter ever, even on my blog. Know that if you leave a comment and I don’t respond, I’m not ignoring you.
I did read it, and I had every intention on commenting, but I probably got distracted by Facebook, or something pretty on Pinterest, or a painting project in my garage or something sparkly!
And I’m sorry I cannot float you a loan for pumpkins! I’ve spent my own fortune on them. And I wasn’t even smart enough to buy edible ones!
Have a great week, friend.

Love, love your table Amy!…Great idea to use the wrapping paper!

Thanks, Shirley. I actually scooped up that wrapping paper last Christmas after seeing how Kristen used it for some of her packages. I still have plans for it for Christmas, but I couldn’t resist adding it to my little woodlands table.

You had me at “owl glasses” – they are so cute! Love your table setting, especially that wrapping paper – great idea!
Atta Girl Amy
I have been seeing owls everywhere! So you know I couldn’t pass up those glasses.
I almost raided my Christmas decor bins for more owls (because I have big plans to use them in my holiday decor), but I didn’t want to go into the hot attic.
Thanks for stopping by.

Very pretty! I did a table with owls as well. I am practicing tablescapes every week!

I had never heard of tablescaping until I became a blogger. 🙂
Pre-blog days, I may have confused it with manscaping.
If you’re interested, Replacements Ltd. is having a session on tablescaping on Nov. 16. (Suzy and I met with them last week on another matter — possible blogger meetup! — and they were telling us about it. As soon I get the details about the tablescaping event, I’ll send it your way.
