Craft a creepy wreath for Halloween using barbed wire and burlap witch hats.
This isn’t your ordinary burlap wreath. And it isn’t your ordinary Halloween wreath.
This is a wreath from the mind of a Halloween-obsessed woman hoping to create a never-before-seen-on-the-Internet no-sew craft project.
I think I succeeded, but whether the wreath is a craft fail or an example of crafting genius, I’m not so sure. As my ever-diplomatic husband said, “It’s not as pretty as some things you make.”
Which is kinda the point with a spooky Halloween craft, dear husband.
To quote Rod Serling, submitted for your consideration: my no-sew Halloween craft project, a questionable barbed wire wreath.
Consider it haunted farmhouse chic. Rustic Halloween decor. Asylum style. (Am I trying too hard to sell you on it?) Maybe Hershel needs it to hang on his barn!
I’m one of six bloggers showcasing a no-sew Halloween craft. These ladies really know how not to sew!

Now, let me tell you how I made my burlap witches hat Halloween wreath.
First off, I cut 4-inch circles of burlap. I used a plastic bowl as my template. Then, I rolled the circles into cones and pinned them.
I squished (technical term!) the bottom of each hat to form a brim.
Now, here’s the fun, if slightly messy, part. I dipped each witch hat into Stiffy fabric stiffener, squeezing to remove the excess liquid. (Be careful of the pins. Just one time, I’m going to complete one of these no-sew craft projects without injuring myself.)
I let my hats sit overnight on wax paper to dry.
Once dry, the fabric will be stiff and will retain its shape, so you can remove the pins without fear that your hats will collapse.
I embellished each hat by tying a black lace ribbon around the brim.
I originally thought I would make a Halloween bunting or banner with my witch hats. But then I remembered I had a roll of barbed wire I scavenged from an abandoned barn, and the idea for the barbed wire wreath was born.
The wire I used was a fairly thick gauge, but I was still easily able to thread it through the tops of my witches hat, alternating with wooden chalkboard tags I painted. If you decide to make your own barbed wire Halloween wreath, wear protective work gloves while handling the wire.
I twisted short links of wire into barbs to hold the hats and chalkboard tags into place.
The chalkboard tags are perfect for spelling out a wicked word or eerie Halloween phrase.
So, what do you think of my Burlap Witches Hat Barbed Wire Halloween wreath? Craft fail? Or the best thing to hit the Internet since Pinterest? I’m prepared for your barbs.
Hardy-har-har.
