I love stepping outside my comfortable color palette and bucking tradition when it comes to holiday decorating.
Who says Thanksgiving table decor has to be shades of orange, gold, brown and red?
Why use not purple and black and silver and other jewel tones for an elegant and unexpected tablescape?
That’s exactly what I did in creating this colorful tablesetting using Bormioli Rocco glassware and dinnerware.
I received a 4-piece place setting of dinnerware, chargers, plus my choice of water glasses, wine glasses and glass bottles from Bormioli Rocco to create my Thanksgiving table decor.
I’m also giving away $200 worth of glassware to my readers so you can create a beautiful tablescape for Thanksgiving dinner at home. The winner will receive:
- 4 Premium Multicolor water glasses in lavender
- 4 InAlto Uno Wine Glasses
- 4 Diamond Charger plates in clear
- 4 Sets of Cometa Dinnerware (Dinner Plate, Soup Plate, Small Bowl, Dessert Plate)
- 4 Diamond Dessert Cups in clear
- 1 Swing Bottle in brown
- 1 Moresca Bottle in lavender

Inspired by a dramatic Thanksgiving tablesetting from Southern Living, I decided to pull out my silver and aim for an elegant presentation, mostly black and white, with a few vibrant pops of color.
I chose the black glass chargers and paired them with Bormioli Rocco’s Moon classic white dinnerware. I love the way food shines on white plates, and these opal glass ones are gorgeous and durable — great for everyday and fancy occasions.
I used black cotton napkins from World Market and made a place card for each dinner guest by painting paper leaves silver and adding scrapbook paper name banners.
To add color to the table, I used my Whippoorwhill Table Runner from World Market and Bormioli Rocco’s Bodega Water Glasses in purple.
I’ll admit I had a hard time choosing from the 12 colors and different water glass designs available, but that gorgeous amethyst purple won me over. And my husband really likes the shape of these tumbler-style glasses because they’re easy to hold and drink from with their wide mouths.
I also chose a purple Swing bottle, which can be used to serve water, other beverages, dressings and infused oils. (They’re also great for homemade holiday gifts!)
For the other end of the table, I chose a gray glass Oxford bottle. I just loved the shape and the color!
To complete each place setting, I chose Bormioli Rocco’s large Electra wine glasses, which are endorsed by the Italian Sommelier Association and also are a favorite of restaurants. I chose these glasses because they’re perfect for medium-bodied red wines, a favorite of mine!
And of course, I used my wedding silver. (After I snapped these photos, I realized I put the tiny dessert/seafood fork in the wrong place. Don’t report me to Emily Post, please!)
The silver pattern is Gorham Chantilly. When we were engaged, I found out that my husband’s parents had bought two 12-piece sets of the silver as an investment when he was just a child.
I got married in an age when most brides weren’t interested in things like formal silver and china. As someone who loves antiques, tradition and entertaining, I was thrilled to get a full service of silver.
Bruce’s set had never been used when we got married; his parents had been storing it in a Ked’s tennis shoe box for 20+ years!
You better believe I took it out of that box and polished it up and use it regularly. I love using the silver with my formal china and also mixing it with modern, everyday dishes.
A beautiful table isn’t complete without a gorgeous centerpiece, and I thought this one called for something a bit out of the ordinary.
I went to the grocery story — albeit the fancy grocery store, but still the grocery store — and bought an assortment of purple white and lavender flowers and arranged them in a silver tiered tray.
I flanked the centerpiece with a pair of silver (fake from Target!) candelabras and julep cups (part of our wedding centerpieces) filled with more blooms.
This tablescape is definitely not my normal aesthetic, and the color scheme isn’t what you’d traditionally think of for Thanksgiving, but I think it’s perfect for a meal of gratitude shared with loved ones.
Speaking of gratitude, I’m very grateful to Bormioli Rocco for sponsoring this post and giving away a set of dishes, glasses and other goodies to one lucky reader.
