Create pretty decoupaged Easter eggs using pages from your favorite children’s Easter storybook.
I love all things vintage, especially when it comes to children’s storybooks and artwork. This decoupaged Easter eggs celebrate a favorite children’s storybook.

I have always loved The Country Bunny and the Little Gold Shoes by DuBose Heyward. It was a story my parents read to me, and now I love reading it with my son.
The country bunny is one busy mama, which makes me love her even more now that I’m a grownup.
Not only is the story sweet and packed with great lessons, but the book is gorgeously illustrated. I remember loving the artwork and colors as a child.
I first shared this tutorial last year at Inspiration Made Simple. But since it’s one of my favorites Easter egg decorating ideas, I wanted to share it here, as well.
Supplies for Decoupaged Easter Eggs
To make your own storybook decoupaged Easter eggs, you will need:
- storybook pages
- paper mache eggs
- Mod Podge
- Paintbrush
- Spray sealer
I didn’t want to destroy our copy of The Country Bunny, so I made some color photocopies on my printer.
I tore the copied pages into strips and irregular shapes, trying to keep certain bits of the text and artwork in tact, like the bunnies’ faces.
I coated the backside of each strip with Mod Podge, then applied them to the paper eggs.
Don’t worry about getting the paper super smooth. I didn’t even fret much if my paper wrinkled. That just makes the eggs look more vintage!
Once each egg was covered in storybook pages, I finished them with a coat of Mod Podge to seal.
Be careful not to touch the topcoat of Mod Podge until it is completely dry, as your sticky fingers may remove part of the paper or printed image.
Once the eggs have dried, they may still be slightly sticky or tacky to the touch. Spray with an acrylic sealer and they should lose that sticky feel.
These look so pretty displayed in a basket or as part of your Easter decor.
I think these Easter eggs would be beautiful made using pages of Beatrix Potter’s Peter Rabbit books. (Be sure to check out my Peter Rabbit Easter party!)
Use this same technique with scrapbook paper, sheet music, printed book pages, wrapping paper, colorful fabric, or napkins to make Easter eggs to match any theme.
Do you have a favorite children’s book that would work well with this craft?

These eggs are so cute, Amy! I found a book at the auction that has sheets for decoupaging and I believe it’s from Peter Rabbit. I will have to pull it out tomorrow!
