Best Homemade Hot Dog Chili

You'll swear off the canned stuff forever after you try this homemade hot dog chili. It's great on    bratwurst, sausage and hamburgers, too.

These hot dogs are missing something!

Homemade Chili

Cook's Tip Hot dog chili can be made ahead of time and frozen.   I like to freeze it in dinner-size portions.

Ingredients  1 lb. lean ground beef ½ to ⅔ cup water  1 medium onion, diced 2 cloves garlic, diced 1 TBS olive oil 2 cups ketchup 1 TBS yellow mustard ½ teaspoon salt ½ teaspoon pepper 2 teaspoons chili powder 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce

Place lean ground beef in a bowl and cover with water or broth. Use a wooden spoon to break up the beef.

Prepare the ground beef.

Add just enough water to cover the ground beef, not to make it soupy.

Over medium heat, saute diced onion and garlic in olive oil.

Saute onions and garlic.

Once the onion and garlic are soft, add the ground beef and water to the pan. Cook about 5 minutes, until the beef is no longer pink.

Cook ground beef.

Add ketchup, mustard, salt, pepper, chili powder and Worcestershire sauce.

Add remaining ingredients.

Reduce heat and simmer, uncovered, for 20 minutes, until thickened. Stir frequently to prevent from sticking or burning.

Simmer to thicken.

You can cook the chili longer to thicken it even more. Just be sure to stir frequently.
