Grab some fillable ornaments, toy cars, fake snow and bottlebrush trees and create a snowy scene to hang on your Christmas tree. A waterless DIY snow globe ornament is so easy to make, even kids can do it!
Are you ready for a whole lot of cute?
There’s just something about a bottlebrush tree tied to the top of a toy car that gets me every time.
So nostalgic.
These waterless DIY snow globe ornaments were inspired by the adorable cars in jars from Mason Jar Crafts Love. I’ve been wanting to make them for years, but never seem to find vintage- or retro-looking toy cars. Bur recently, I snagged a couple of cute cars at the Dollar Tree and decided to whip up a couple of “cars in ornaments.”
The Dollar Tree is one of my go-to spots for Christmas crafting supplies. I love to walk the aisles and dream of things to make. Here are a few Christmas crafts you can make using supplies from your local dollar store:
Jingle Bell Christmas Swag
DIY Mercury Glass & Sea Glass Votives
Miniature Christmas Snow Globe Ornaments
Felt Santa Napkin Rings
Shadowbox Christmas Ornaments
Twine Candy Cane Ornaments

Supplies for a DIY Snow Globe Ornament
- Clear plastic fillable ornaments (I used the 4-inch size to accommodate the size of the toy cars.)
- toy cars
- small bottlebrush trees
- baker’s twine
- faux foam snow
- paper ivy garland
- hot glue gun
How to Make Waterless Snow Globe Ornaments
Begin by tying a bottlebrush tree to a toy car using baker’s twine. Depending on the design of the car, you may need to add a bit of hot glue to secure the tree in place. Use a hair dryer or a heat gun (on low) to blow away any hot glue strands.
Open the plastic ornament and place the car on one side.
Add faux snow and snap the other side of the fillable plastic ornament into place. If you’re worried about the ornament coming apart, you can glue the two sides together. But I don’t think that’s necessary.
Once the two sides of the ornament are secure, tie a loop of twine through the top as a hanger.
Wrap paper ivy garland around the top of the ornament to conceal the hanger.
Making sure both sides of the ornament are firmly snapped together, gently shake the car and snow into place before hanging on the tree or displaying.
Cuteness overload, right?
