Whether your style is vintage glam, traditional, rustic or farmhouse, you’ll find plenty of Christmas decorating ideas to inspire you on this holiday home tour.
Today, I’m throwing open the doors of our home and giving you the grand holiday home tour of our Christmas decor.
My style tends to the vintage and traditional, so I’ve used lots of glitter, glass and gold to decorate for Christmas, especially in the more formal spaces like our living room and dining room. But I also like the rustic, farmhouse and cozy side of vintage, and our outdoor, family room and kitchen Christmas decorations reflect that.
I believe you should decorate with what you love, even if that means mixing styles and bucking trends. I love that our home is a unique reflection of our family and that so many of our Christmas decorations hold special meaning and have a story to tell.
Now, let me share some of those stories with you…
Welcome to my 2016 Holiday Home Tour.
We’ll start on the front porch. I’m a southerner, so I believe in big front porches and monograms and heaping doses of hospitality.
I also think it’s perfectly acceptable to put fancy furniture on the front porch. (But that buffet only looks fancy; it was nasty and scratched and on its last leg before I brought it home and gave it a makeover.)
You can share every gorgeous vintage detail of the lodge-inspired porch Christmas decor here.
We’ll step inside the foyer next, which is reserved for fancy guests and the delivery drivers who ring the doorbell.
I have a thing for old buffets restored to glory with paint. I painted this one in my favorite color, one you’ll be seeing a lot of as you continue our holiday home tour.
A champagne tinsel tree, decorated with vintage Shiny-Brite ornaments collected through the years, holds a lot of special memories.
As you can see, I have a burgeoning collection of vintage-style paper Christmas houses.
Every year I add a new one.
The pink one is this year’s addition.
Some day, I’d like to make my own.
Our dining room is right off our foyer.
I’ve been making some changes to this room recently with new chairs, curtains and a pretty rug. So I kept the Christmas decor fairly simple — for me — just lots of golden sparkle and aqua blue touches.
Since I couldn’t hang all my ornaments on the tree, I added a confection to each place setting.
So sweet!
I love how the sequins sparkle in the morning light.
All from just a few reindeer.
I am still deciding whether I should paint the walls in the dining room my favorite aqua blue or leave them neutral. Do you have an opinion?
The white Christmas tree is my favorite. I love decorating it in a different theme and color scheme each year.
While this year’s color scheme is gold and aqua, last year it was preppy with pink and green ornaments. Before that, it was decked out in gold.
Even the bar car is decked out for the holidays…
…with color coordinated glasses, accessories and spirits.
I do not have a taste for it, and I have been trying to give away that bottle of gin for months. But it sure looks pretty in my blue and gold dining room.
From the dining room, we’ll head to the living room where we have our family Christmas tree.
As you can probably tell, I love pastels and pattern.
Though it has a bank of windows and French doors, this room can get rather dark because it’s in the center of the house.
So the lighter palette helps brighten it.
I gave myself this window frame as an early Christmas present and decorated it with the 12 Days of Christmas printables from Lindsay Letters Studio. I’m looking forward to decorating it season after season.
More Shiny-Brites and baubles on the pink desk my mom painted for me.
Even though I told myself I wasn’t buying any more Christmas decor this year, I couldn’t resist these gorgeous pink glittered ornaments from Michaels.
Pink ornaments, a pink desk, a pink bottlebrush tree — they just make me happy!
From the living room, we head into the heart of our home — the kitchen, breakfast nook and keeping room where we spend most of our time.
My 10-year-old mess maker sits here.
Santa is watching.
I start and end my day in front of this fireplace.
This little guy keeps me company.
You can see more details of our Christmas fireplace decor here.
I love these preserved hops wreaths I found for the kitchen cabinets. They look so festive hanging from red velvet ribbon, but I know I’ll use these season after season.
That’s key to my decorating philosophy.
When I buy things — be they vintage or new — I try to pick items that I can use in multiple rooms and in multiple ways.
This cake stand is a perfect example. It’s great for serving Christmas treats and Valentine sweets.
The vintage mailbox is another. I’ve used it on my fireplace mantel for fall, as a wreath for spring and fall and to hold holiday cards at Christmas.
The same goes for this European dough bowl and the lanterns on the hearth.
They look all Christmasy now, but I’ll use them all year round.
Even our guest bathroom got a little touch of Christmas cheer.
You can find all the details here.
Before our tour ends, there’s just one more space I need to show you.
Let’s step outside on the patio, where the table is set for Christmas brunch.
You can see more details of our backyard Christmas decor here.
Thanks for joining me on our holiday home tour. I hope I’ve inspired you with lots of Christmas decorating ideas for your space.
And for more holiday decorating ideas, be sure to check out my holiday home tour from years past to see how I use many of the same items in different ways.
