You can’t go wrong with a witchy black-and-white theme for your Halloween porch decor. Come see how we created a spooky setting for trick or treating using vintage items, dollar store finds and things from the yard.
Who knows if we’ll even have trick or treaters this year. But this witch wasn’t about to let October pass without putting out some spooky Halloween porch decor.
As is my custom, I decorated using a lot of vintage and dollar store Halloween decor. In fact, I didn’t buy a single new thing for this year’s Halloween porch, not even a pumpkin!
Everything I used came from our attic or our yard.
Talk about budget Halloween decorations! It doesnt’ get any cheaper than using what you already have.
Learn how to use cheap Halloween decorations from the dollar store to haunt your house. You can still get big screams on a small budget. Using vintage Halloween items, purchased at thrift stores and yard sales, is another great way to save money.
Don’t feel like you have to go out and buy new Halloween decorations every year. Invest in a few basics, like skeletons, witches’ hats, skulls and spider webs, and you can use them year to create a variety of scary scenes.
This year’s theme is all about the witches! Those ladies are always brewing up trouble.

I’m not sure if the witches who live here are evil or friendly with a wicked sense of humor!
The message as you climb the porch steps is that it might be wise to keep away.
(I always get asked about my skull rug. Unfortunately, it’s no longer available. I wish I could conjure one for you. But here’s a spooky alternative. I also like this option or this ouija board rug.)

The last poor soul who tried to enter got caught up in a web and turned into spider food. Only his bones remain.
But what else would you expect at a witch house?
This sign is an easy DIY project that my son and I made, based on the original from the Jonathan Corwin House, also know as the Witch House, in Salem, Mass. We used the same process that I did when making my Legend of Sleepy Hollow sign.
Normally, I go overboard with the pumpkins at Halloween. But the shipment was late to arrive at our favorite patch, so I decided to forgo the real pumpkins this year. I used some rustic galvanized pumpkins instead.
Rather than the traditional fall mums or pumpkin topairy, I filled our porch urns with sticks from the yard and decorated them with crows, rubber bats and flying skeletons.
Never underestimate the spookiness of a black crow on a branch!
I love decorating my black buffet and this side of the porch for the holidays. Its normal black-and-white color scheme is so easy to riff on for the holidays. You can add a pop of color, or stay all neutral as I did for Halloween.
Opening these lanterns to fill them with plastic skulls and skeletons gave me a bit of a fright. Wasps were nesting inside, but I used some of my own magic potion to banish them.
The only insects allowed on this haunted Halloween porch are rubber ones! Same for the mice!
We hung some witch hats around the perimeter of the porch. Or maybe the members of this coven have cast an invisiblity spell and are watching your every move.
You never know what’s up with witches.
In any case, I’d watch what you say or do around the witch’s familiar.
Even the skeltons might be enchanted.
I’m pretty sure I saw this spider skeleton move to get a closer look at the witches’ spellbook.
