Food, games, activities, printables, party favor and more! Check out these epic Minecraft party ideas for a birthday, playdate or gamer get-together.
I love how quickly kids discover their shared interests and become fast friends. I saw it happen last weekend when Jackson invited friends over to check out his new Gameband for the ultimate Minecraft party play date. If you’re looking for Minecraft party ideas, we have you covered.
Don’t miss the shopping links at the end of this post. To make your party planning easier, I’ve included links to many of the items I used in creating these Minecraft party ideas.
Many of the kids had never met each other before, but they all had Minecraft in common. It didn’t take long before they were comparing worlds, sharing mining tricks, raiding the snack table and playing like best friends!
Don’t you wish making friends as an adult was as easy? Maybe we should all be playing Minecraft, too!
Since Jackson and his pals are Minecraft obsessed (like most kids their age), we decided to lay out a spread to match their passions. We had quite the spread, but all these Minecraft party ideas are super easy to recreate.

Minecraft Party Ideas: Food
We had a table full of Minecraft-inspired food and DIY decorations and games, and it all came together easily and inexpensively. I love using these paper grass mats as tablecloths.
We set out bowls of snacks to represent different items in Minecraft. (You can find lots of Minecraft food label printables on Etsy.
Twizzlers labeled as TNT with homemade wrappers …
…mini apples and homemade chocolate Rice Krispies treats and cubes of cheese…
… York Peppermint Patties as coal…
…brownies iced with green grass…
…pretzel sticks…
… green M&Ms slime balls (which I’m told are not edible!) But the M&Ms were.
…gold nuggets…
… and creeper face Rice Krispies treats, colored green and decorated with black icing.
Later, since the play date ran three hours, we served a dinner of creeper pepperoni pizza. To make your own, just cut the pepperoni into squares, arrange on the pizza and bake. If you can’t find a square frozen pizza, trim a round pizza into a square after baking.)

These Minecraft bento boxes are another menu option for your party. Prep the cheese and cold cuts ahead of time and let kids create their own pixelated food.
Kids love this Minecraft party punch served in cups that look like Creepers.
Minecraft Party Ideas: Crafts & Decor
Most of the decor for this party was DIY. Minecraft crafts are exceedingly easy to make because everything’s a cube, like pixels on a computer screen.
These torches are just cardboard boxes covered with kraft paper and orange and yellow scrapbook paper. The Minecraft experts in attendance at the party promptly removed the tissue paper I had added to the tops of the boxes because it was “not authentic.”
They did, however, approve of our pixelated windows, which we created with squares of white electrical tape.
Such a fun detail, and yet so easy to do. It was a fun family project.

That’s one of the things I really love about these parties we throw. They’re definitely a family affair. We all pitch in with the conception, crafting, cooking and decorating, so we’re making lots of memories together.
I think I mentioned earlier that the play date ran three hours. I knew it was a success when one little boy, who at first didn’t want his mom to leave, told me at the end that he didn’t want her to pick him up yet!
So, how did we keep the kids entertained for three hours? We started out with a little mining, of course.
Minecraft Party Ideas: Activities
Jackson got to show off an early Christmas gift, his new Gameband Minecraft™, which is the first-ever Minecraft wearable. You can’t have a Minecraft party without a little game time. But the kids definitely weren’t glued to the screen the entire time.
At our play date, we also had some fun Minecraft party crafts. The kids got to create their own Minecraft skins, using 12-inch sheets of scrapbook paper, glue sticks and 1.5-inch squares. (Use this paper punch to make the squares.)
It was a blast to see their pixelated self portraits.
The kids also got plenty of outside time at the party, which they spent running around, just being crazy.
We had relay races and lots of free play. To make things more challenging, the kids raced wearing Minecraft box heads.
This Minecraft bean bag toss game is a great outdoor activity for a Minecraft party.
Learn how to make your own Minecraft bean bag game here. (This is a great project to do with your kids! And you don’t need expert carpentry skills.
After outside time at our party, we headed back inside for more snacks (one boy ate so much Twizzler TNT, I thought he might explode!), more mining and some Minecraft Trivia.
My son wrote all the questions, so this game trivia game is perfect for elementary school kids.
Download the Minecraft Trivia cards here.
If you’re throwing a party around Christmastime, you can let the kids color these printable Minecraft Christmas cards.
From food to friendships to fun and games, I’d say our Minecraft party play date was a huge success.
Minecraft Party Ideas: Favors
If you’re throwing a Minecraft birthday party, you can send the guests home with some fun DIY favors.
How about a Minecraft creeper slap bracelet made with green and black duct tape.
These DIY printable Minecraft pencil cases and notebook covers are another fun project.

Thanks for using my printable Minecraft food cards! I love your party! That food card set has now expanded into a 12 page set on my site! http://printabelle.com/product/minecraft-printable-food-cards-emailed-pdf-3/
Rachel
Did you punch out all that paper for the pixel faces? If not, can you let me know where I can get a stash for our upcoming party? Thanks for the great ideas!
Jessica
how did you make the grass on the tables? Love your ideas. My daughter wants a minecraft party
Atta Girl Amy
Hi Jennifer, so sorry I missed your comment. The grass on the table is actually a paper tablecloth. I think I used 3 or 4 of these on our table. http://amzn.to/1MU0P7H. If you’re planning a Minecraft party, be sure to check back on Sept. 25 when I’ll sharing a recipe for a cool Minecraft Creeper punch.

My eight-year-old grandson just saw this and declared it “a pillar of epicness”. His birthday is not until March, but we just might have to do some of it this summer to get him off his tablet, where he plays Minecraft until the tablet must be recharged. Thank you so much, you made his day!
Atta Girl Amy
I think your grandson and my son would get along really well. That sounds like something my son would say, too! We’re planning lots of other Minecraft projects this summer, so you may want to check back every so often and click on the Minecraft link in my sidebar to see what we’ve cooked up. Did you see the Minecraft beanbag toss game we made?
And your comment made my day!
Michelle
Oh my word, that is SUCH a fun party! I love your ideas. My son’s birthday was (ahem) in October, and he’s such a Minecraft addict. I can see this party being a perfect idea for him and his friends. So clever! #client
Atta Girl Amy
I haven’t met a kid of a certain age yet who doesn’t love Minecraft! And it’s amazing how easily they figure it out. He had the Gameband figured out in no time, too. My son has already placed an order for a Minecraft party for his 9th birthday in September. At least I have lots of notice. I really enjoyed working with you on this campaign.
Rebecca
What a fun party, I love all the details and that pizza is such a great idea! I’ll definitely have to check out the Gameband for my brother!
Atta Girl Amy
He’s going to love it, I’m sure. And you’ll earn lots of sister points, too! He’ll owe you big time if you get him the Gameband.
Mrs Major Hoff
Fabulous job Amy! I wish it was that easy for adults! Love all the food!
Atta Girl Amy
We could all learn some lessons from our kids in how to make friends and welcome people into a group!
