You can’t have a spooky Halloween display without some special effects.
A cauldron, plus dry ice and hot water equals a fog effect that will have those trick-or-treaters hightailing it off your porch before they become an ingredient in the witch’s brew!
Continental Carbonic, a manufacturer of dry ice with 39 branches in the eastern two-thirds of the United States, gave me 50 pounds of dry ice to use in my Halloween decorating and entertaining.
What fun!
Beyond the spooky ways to use dry ice, there are some great recipes and dry ice experiments to try after Halloween.
The first thing you need to know about dry ice is that it can burn you. Or freeze you, resulting in an injury very similar to a burn. So have fun, but be safe and smart about it.
Dry ice is carbon dioxide in its solid form, and it’s a frigid -109 degrees Fahrenheit. You should always wear gloves and goggles when handling it, and you should never ingest dry ice.
If you follow the safety precautions, you can have a lot of fun with dry ice.
Just ask my little mad scientist.
