Cleanup and chores are about to get so much easier when you try out these clever, time-saving cleaning hacks using a lint roller.
If you’re a regular reader, you’ve met Felix before.
He’s the tabby cat who adopted us two years and has spent that time claiming every comfy, cozy spot in our house as his kingdom.
Felix is not content to sleep on the luxurious pet bed we bought him. He’d rather nap on our beds, on the sofa, atop a pile of pretty pillows, on an upholstered chair in the living that he treats like a throne or on our outdoor upholstered furniture.
He’s a creature who likes his comforts. And he leaves a lot of his hair behind.
But I’m winning the war against cat hair with a tool that I bet you have in your laundry room or closet.
One of my favorite cleaning hacks is to use a lint roller for everyday messes on fabric, carpet and upholstery. It’s so much easier than hauling out the vacuum, and I find the lint roller actually works better on pet hair than any other method I’ve tried.
See for yourself:
Felix is not amused!
The new 8-inch Scotch-Brite™ 50% Stickier Lint Roller is great for cleaning up cat hair from bedspreads or upholstery, like you saw in the video. The stickier tape and larger surface area gets the job done quickly.
When I broke a glass Christmas ornament while decorating the tree, my husband used the Scotch-Brite Lint Roller to pick up the pieces. (Lints rollers really get the job done, but you should double check those carpet fibers a few times for safety. My husband went over the area several times. Also, when picking up glass, be very careful that you don’t cut yourself while tearing off the sticky sheet. )
This was one of those messes that needed to be cleaned up immediately, but I didn’t want to hassle with hauling the heavy vacuum out. (Once I was finished decorating, I did vacuum the spot, as well, to make sure there were no tiny pieces of glass trapped in the pile of the rug where the roller couldn’t reach.)
More Cleaning Hacks With a Lint Roller
A lint roller is also great for cleaning up everyday messes like:
- Leaves, grass and debris in your area rugs
- Crumbs in the carpet or on upholstery
- Down feathers that escape from pillows and upholstery
- Confetti, shredded gift filler and excelsior filler used in holiday packaging
- Packaging peanuts
- Polysterene beans used in stuffed animals and bean bag chairs
- Glitter spills in carpet in the craft room
- Crumbs on tablecloths and placemats
- Christmas tree needles and tinsel on carpet and tree skirts
- Area rugs that are hard to vacuum
- Legos spilled on the playroom carpet
- Beads and other small craft supplies
If your kids have ever spilled beads, you know they’re a pain to clean up. With just a few passes of the lint roller, we had this mess cleaned up. And I was able to put the spilled beads back into the container by running my hand along the roller.
This trick also works for Legos strewn all over the playroom carpet!
I also use a standard size and shape lint roller to dust lamp shades and curtains, which are way too delicate to vacuum. If you’ve never dusted yours, you’ll be surprised at how much better they will look after a few rolls!
Because they’re so versatile, I stock up on Scotch-Brite Lint Rollers at Target and keep them all around the house so I can tackle messes as they happen.
We all know lint rollers are great for removing lint and hair from clothing. But do you have any other cleaning hacks using this simple tool? Please share them in the comments below.
