How many wings can you cook in an air fryer?
The answer really depends on the size of air fryer you have. You’ll be able to fit more in a larger 6-quart model than a compact 3.6-quart model. For best results, cook wings in a single layer in an air fryer.
Can you stack wings in an air fryer?
You can, but the wings may not get as crisp as they would if cooked in a single layer. Some of the recipes above do allow you to stack the wings, while others recommend that you don’t.
Experiment with different recipes to find the method that works best for your particular air fryer.
How long does it take to cook chicken wings in an air fryer?
The exact time will depend on the recipe you’re using and also your air fryer.
Plan on anywhere from 15 to 30 minutes to cook chicken wings in an air fryer. (If you’re cooking frozen wings, you’ll need to add more time, usually about 5 minutes.)
Most recipes call for flipping chicken wings halfway through cooking them in an air fryer. And if you want the wings to be crispy, raise the cooking temperature 10 degrees for the last five minutes.
Always check to see that wings are fully cooked to at least 165 degrees F before serving them. Use a meat thermometer to be safe.
How do you cook chicken wings in the air fryer?
Each of these recipes call for slightly different methods of cooking chicken wings in an air fryer. Some call for lining the basket with foil, some use cooking spray and others do not. You’ll want to try all of these recipes to find out your favorite method for making chicken wings in an air fryer.
In general, you want to place wings in a single layer in the air fryer basket, allowing room between them for air flow.
Cook wings at 360 to 400 degrees for between 15 to 30 minutes, turning midway through. For crispy skin, after the wings have cooked, raise the temperature on the air fryer 10 degrees and cook for an additional five minutes.
Frozen wings will need additional time to cook, but the process is the same.
To ensure that wings are full cooked, use a meat thermometer to confirm that the internal temperature is at least 165 degrees F.
Can I reheat chicken wings in the air fryer?
Yes, you can reheat wings in the air fryer. This is one of my favorite ways to reheat crispy foods because the air fryer really helps maintain the “fried” texture.
To reheat chicken wings in an air fryer, place the wings in the basket in a single layer and cook at 390 or 400 degrees F for five to eight minutes, until heated and crisp. (Before adding the wings, you can spray the air fryer basket lightly with cooking spray, but I don’t always do this.) You may also find it helpful to flip the food halfway through the cooking time.
Can I make my favorite chicken wing recipe in an air fryer?
If you have a favorite chicken wing recipe that’s fried, baked, grilled or made in a pressure cooker or slow cooker, you can modify it for use with an air fryer.
Consult the manual that came with your air fryer and read the tips above for advice on cooking times. You may also find this Air Fryer Cooking Times Cheat Sheet from Recipes from a Pantry helpful.
You can cook marinated chicken wings or those that have been seasoned with a dry rub in an air fryer, as you’ll see from the recipes linked above. For easier cleanup, prepare sauce separately and dip or brush wings with it after cooking. You can also line your air fryer basket with foil to prevent sauce or marinade from dripping through the air fryer basket onto the heating element.
When cooking chicken wings in an air fryer, prepare them in batches. Don’t overload the basket. For best results, cook chicken wings in a single layer, allowing space between them for air to flow.
