I’ve been sharing a lot of homemade beauty products lately, but this one is especially for the guys, just in time for Father’s Day.
I guarantee your guy will love this homemade alternative to Barbasol.
This homemade shaving cream is easy to make, and my husband swears by it for a smooth shave. And it smells great, too, when you add your favorite fragrance or essential oil.
The scents I’m using in this recipe — vetiver, cedarwood and eucalyptus — are more masculine. The finished product has a subtle smoky, woodsy scent. But you could swap them out for more feminine essential oils and fragrance if you want to make some homemade shaving cream for yourself.

Supplies
- 4 ounces of shea butter
- 3 ounces of coconut oil
- 2 ounces of jojoba oil
- 1 teaspoon Vitamin E oil
- 10 drops of vetiver essential oil
- 10 drops of cedarwood essential oil
- 4 drops of eucalyptus essential oil
- Microwave-safe glass measuring cup
- 3 4-ounce Plastic jars
- Immersion blender or hand mixer
Instructions
Combine shea butter and coconut oil in a glass, microwave safe container. A large measuring cup works well.
Heat in the microwave in 30-seconds increments, stirring frequently, until the shea butter and coconut oil are completely melted. It shouldn’t take more than a minute for the butter and oil to melt.
Mix in the Vitamin E oil and the essential oil or fragrance oil, stirring to incorporate.
Place the mixture in the freezer for about 20 minutes, just until a crust forms on top. It should not be completely solid.
Use an immersion blender or a handheld mixture to whip the shaving cream, as you slowly add the jojoba oil to the mix. Once the mixture is creamy, transfer to plastic jars or containers. This recipe should fill three 4-ounce jars.
As the mixture cools and rests, it will thicken to a buttery consistency. The color may vary, depending on the color of the shea butter you use.
To use the homemade shaving cream, scoop out a dollop and massage into skin. This doesn’t lather like traditional shaving cream, but it works great. The razor glides over it, and the shaving cream is very moisturizing thanks to the shea butter and jojoba oil.
Feel free to experiment with different scents to customize this homemade shaving cream. Just be careful about using any essential oils that are photo toxic, as they can increase the skin’s sensitivity to sunlight and result in serious burns if you’re exposed to UV rays.
And if you prefer fragrance oils, I really like the tobacco and bay leaf scent from Brambleberry, which is one of my favorite places to shop for soapmaking supplies.

This totally amazes me and I love your little soaps, too! I’ve always loved any woodsy scents, probably because I like hiking and camping! Thanks for sharing with us at Throwback Thursday! I peeked in earlier, but didn’t get a chance to comment before now! Have a great weekend!

I never would have thought to make my own shaving cream, but this seems pretty simple. Our family tries to use only natural skincare products, and this is as natural as they come! Thanks for sharing with #FamilyJoy Blog Link-Up Party. 🙂

I made a homemade shaving crema for hubby once, and he LOVED it. It also has kept for almost two years, and he is finally nearing the end of it. I didn’t use all the same oils as you, but I think I did tea tree at least, to help it stay bacteria free. He is not really a crunchy person, so to say he loved it is a testimonial. 🙂 Thanks for sharing at the Family Joy Linkup!

Good idea to add tea tree oil to the mix. I think keeping water out of it also inhibits bacteria growth.
