This candy corn inspired craft has been a year in the making.
Last year, when we went thrift and antique shopping during the Southern Bloggers Conference, we stopped in at Twelve Forks Junction, a neat shop in Raleigh.
This simple fall mantel really caught my eye.
I adored the cute candy corn garland and light covers and decided to make my own.
I actually started making my garland last year, but I never finished it. I ran out of time before Halloween, so I stashed the unfinished project in a drawer to save for this year.
I finally finished it yesterday and got it hung on the mantel. And just in time since today is Halloween. Talk about last-minute crafting and decorating.
Don’t let my pace fool you into thinking this is a tough project. It’s actually quite easy and you could finish it in a night of TV watching. I have no excuse for why I didn’t.
To make your own light garland, you’ll need a strand of miniature lights. I recommend LEDs or battery-powered lights.
You can use my template above as a pattern for your candy corn. Click here or on the image above to download a printable PDF of the candy corn pattern.
For each light cover, cut out two full candy corn shapes from white or cream-colored felt. Then, cut out an orange and yellow strip of felt. Layer the pieces together, starting with the yellow at the bottom, followed by the orange. Be sure the yellow felt overlaps the orange slightly. Using white or cream embroidery floss, handstitch around two sides of your candy corn triangle, leaving the bottom open. Trim thread and felt, then slide candy corn cover over mini lights.
Pretty cute, huh?
