There’s an exclusive, yet little known, place I love to shop for vintage finds and antiques for my house.
It’s where I found this blue seltzer bottle, the antlers and the framed World War II love letter.
And the vintage silver champagne bucket and the antler picture frame.
The prices are to-die-for. This crusty old kitchen scale was a steal.
Though I like to do my own furniture redos, I couldn’t pass up this Scandanavian Pink Duncan Phyfe writing desk for my living room. The price was right.
This place even has the things I collect, like this McCoy planter.
And I couldn’t pass up this great tray, perfect for the guest room.
On another trip to my favorite shopping haunt, I found this wrought iron bird lamp that fits so well in our master bedroom.
Around the holidays, I always seem to find the perfect something to round out my decorating, like this lovely cornucopia and the dried gourds I used in my fall tablescape.
For Easter, I found this ostrich egg.
Plus this bunny and the aqua blue mercury glass Easter eggs. The pink Roseville vase was a past find.
And did I mention this place delivers?
That’s right, the proprietor knows me so well that she often brings items she knows I will love. It’s not unusual for her to call me up after reading one of my blog posts to offer suggestions on my vignettes or to tell me she has the perfect finishing touch.
Do you want me to share the secret of my favorite shop, so you can dig through the treasures and find some for your own home?
I’m happy to share my secret, but I did say this place is exclusive. The shopkeeper and I have known each other for years. We enjoy a special relationship. I like to think I’m her favorite customer, if not her favorite child. Or at the very least, her favorite daughter.
You see, my favorite place to shop isn’t a shop at all. It’s my mom’s home. And it’s rare that I leave her house or that she comes to visit me without some treasure being offered up.
For free.
And usually I don’t even have to ask.
Though I will admit to the occasional manipulation of maternal heartstrings. Like the time just last week when I asked my mom to “be on the lookout” for a vintage kitchen scale, knowing full well she had two in her own kitchen and hoping, fingers crossed, that she would offer me one of hers.
Of course, she did.
She was in quite the generous mood that day and loaded me up with many treasures — the scale, tthe World War II love letter written by my grandfather to my grandmother, the mercury glass eggs and lots of other Easter treasures, many of them family heirlooms.
That’s what my mom’s hand-me-downs are to me: heirlooms. Things that I will treasure because she treasured them. And some day, I will pass them along, as well. But only to my very favorite “customers.”
Do you have a favorite place to “shop” for treasures for your home? Are you lucky enough to have a generous benefactor who shares your sense of style? Tell me about her or him.

What a sweet post. I was holding my breath almost hoping you wouldn’t reveal your source. Good stuff is so hard to come by! It’s so great that you girls share a common beautiful interest.

Hi, I’m new to your blog after reading about you in Kims blog. I love your home. After reading about your favorite place to shop I knew it would be your mothers!! Mothers are like that, they love to share their precious stash with their daughters. My own daughter loves to come “shopping” in my attic and I let her of course! I just wish I had the stash that your Mother does ☺ Lynne

What a sweet tribute to your mom, Amy. I knew she was a special lady who loves her daughter very much from the moment that I met her. I could see it in her eyes. My mom was always generous about sharing her treasures with me and now they mean so much to both my daughter and myself. BTW – do you think she would adopt me????? 😀
