Snag a couple of rolls of patriotic ribbon from the craft store — or better yet raid your scrap ribbon stash — to make a festive tassel garland for your July 4th celebration.
You can also attach several of these ribbon tassels to a dowel to show your all-American spirit at the July 4th parade.
A tassel garland can be used to dress up all sorts of things, like the mantel, a table or a photo backdrop. And you can make them in any color or theme you like. They make great decor for baby showers, weddings and holiday parties.
And a tassel garland couldn’t be easier to make. Just cut, stack and tie!
Tassel Garland Supplies
- Variety of red, white and blue ribbon and rick rack
- Scissors
- Thin ribbon
Tassel Garland Instructions
To make each tassel, cut nine 18-inch pieces of ribbon. (You can use shorter or longer lengths of ribbon, depending on the size you want to make your tassels.)
Stack the ribbon together, with the widest ribbon on the bottom.
Cut another 18-inch piece of thin satin ribbon, and set it aside. You’ll use this to tie your tassel.
Pick the stack of ribbon up from the center and fold it in half, looping over your finger.
Wrap the thin ribbon around the ribbon stack, allowing for a loop at the top.
Tie once in the front and then wrap the thin ribbon around the back and tie twice to secure.
Fluff the tassels by pulling alternating tails of ribbon to each side.
To make a garland, slide the tassels onto a long length of ribbon.
If you want the tassels spaced out, knot each one in place before adding another tassel to the garland.
