Combine the coconut oil and beeswax in a microwave-safe glass measuring cup.

Heat, in 30 second bursts, until the coconut oil and beeswax are completely melted.

Allow to cool slightly before adding the avocado oil and essential oils. Stir to blend.

Combine the hydrosols and aloe vera in a separate measuring cup or bowl.

Next, slowly add the hydrosols and aloe vera to the oil mixture while blending with an immersion blender.

Continue to blend until the lotion develops a creamy, whipped consistency. Transfer into a 4-ounce jar.

As it cools, the lotion will continue to thicken and harden, but it won’t be as firm as a body butter.

Because it’s made with coconut oil, the lotion liquifies at the touch and goes on creamy smooth, without being greasy or heavy.

A few notes about this recipe for coconut oil lotion:

If you don’t have hydrosols — sometimes called floral waters or essential waters — you may substitute an equal amount of distilled water. You may also substitute distilled water for the aloe vera liquid or gel. But I highly recommend using a hydrosol; they’re less concentrated than essential oils and are perfect for adding lighter fragrance notes to your homemade beauty products.

This recipe makes 4 ounces of homemade coconut oil lotion. You can double the recipe, but I would’t make a huge batch. Because the lotion has no preservatives in it, you should use it within a month.

If you prefer a different scent, you can use other essential oils. Just keep the total number of drops the same. You can also substitute another carrier oil for the avocado oil or use more coconut oil.

I love using coconut oil in my homemade beauty products because it’s so moisturizing to the skin, and it smells amazing. It’s also inexpensive and available at the grocery store in the baking aisle.
