Hosting a Social Artworking paint party is a fun snow day activity that kids and adults will enjoy. And no previous artistic experience is necessary!
I always love my neighborhood, but snow days are the best!
With school canceled, the kids suit up in their snow gear early for sledding and snowball fights and snowman making.
And since we’re all cooking up comfort food in the kitchen, there’s always lots of homemade cookies, piping hot soup and other treats to share. It’s a great reminder of what community is all about.
But after a few days snowbound, I think everyone gets a little stir crazy.
Hosting a snow day Social Artworking paint party is a great way to prevent cabin fever from setting in while connecting with your neighbors. Kids and adults alike enjoy painting their own canvases, and there are hundreds of design options.
Last month, we got 8 inches of snow overnight, which is enough to shut down North Carolina for a few days!
Since the kids were out of school, and many parents were at home with them, it was the perfect excuse for a grown-up play date to paint a cute snowy scene on canvas.

Social Artworking® from DecoArt is designed to make painting on canvas and hosting a painting party easy and fun. You can purchase all the supplies you’ll need — easels, canvases, paint, brushes, patterns and accessories, on the Social Artworking website. Your party package ships with everything you need, including detailed painting instructions.
For my snow day painting party, I chose a simple snow globe design that is appropriate for painters of all skill levels, including younger painters.
Before the party, my husband and I used carbon paper and the Social Artworking pattern to trace the design onto the canvases. You can let party guests do this themselves, but we prepped them in advance to save time.
We spread a disposable tablecloth on the kitchen table and set up a spot for each artist to work.
Each person had an easel, a set of paintbrushes, a mason jar of water and a paper plate to use as a palette. (Be sure to have extra paper plates and paper towels on hand!)
Once everyone arrived, we painted our canvases step-by-step, using instructions provided by DecoArt. It really was easy.
My neighbor, Natalea, was in the hot seat in front of my camera tripod, so I got lots of photos of her masterpiece in progress!
But everyone’s artwork turned out great. My husband even painted a canvas!
And so did my friend, Michelle, and her tween daughter.
I love how everyone put their own personal twist on their artwork!
This little cutie is mine!
Our snow day Social Artworking paint party was so much fun that I’m kinda hoping for a blizzard so we can do it again soon!
If you’re planning on hosting your own Social Artworking party, here are a few tips:
- Choose an easy canvas to start, especially if you’ll have people of different skill levels attending.
- To save time, prep the canvases in advance and have all supplies set up when your guests arrive.
- Protect furniture and floor from spills with drop cloths or plastic tablecloths.
- Make sure each painter has enough room to work.
- If you’re serving food, set it up separate from your workspace. That way no one dips their paintbrush in their drinking glass!
- Have fun and don’t forget to socialize!
Looking for ideas on what to serve at your snow day Social Artworking party?
A snowy day is a great time to make your favorite comfort foods. Hot cocoa, coffee and hot buttered rum are great choices.
And you can’t go wrong with s’mores chocolate-covered marshmallows and chocolate chip pecan pie bars.
Any of these homemade snowman snacks would be perfect for a snow day party.
But store-bought snowman cookies and Oreos are great options, too.
You can also make it a potluck party, like ours was, and ask guests to bring their favorite snowy day snacks.

Super cute snow day party! I can’t think of anything I’d rather do on a snow day than a social artworking party! We’re painting “Moonlight Meow” for my daughters birthday party this week, super excited!
