Star Wars Party Ideas: Games & Activities
We had the boys’ birthday party in the picnic area at a local marina. It was the perfect spot — not very big and right next to a play ground — and the perfect day.
Gorgeous fall weather. An ideal September day.
Mostly, the kids just wanted to play and have fun with one another.
But we did have a few planned games and activities for them to enjoy.
My husband set us his disc golf cage, like we did at our Captain America party, and the kids threw Millennium Falcon discs at it. The kids also played tug-of-war and participated in three-legged races.
We also made lightsaber pool noodles.
Here, William’s mom, Stacey, is explaining the lightsaber and water gun baster rules of engagement to the young padawans.
And here’s them acting like kids do! Easiest way to entertain 25 kids for a couple of hours? Water guns and pool noodles!
One of the fun things we did was to create a motion sensor lightsaber battle pad where kids could duel one-on-one.
We used a gadget called a MaKey MaKey, a super cool circuit board invention kit for kids that lets you turn anything into a keyboard or controller when you connect it to a computer.
Seriously, this is the coolest thing ever!
You’re going to want to buy one for every kid you know because it’s such an imagination starter.
Williams’s parents rigged their MaKey MaKey to some foam play mats and their laptop. When kids stepped on each square, it played a different Star Wars song or sound, like R2-D2’s beep.
I’ll have a full tutorial for how to make a lightsaber battle pad with a MaKey MaKey soon.
We also set up the Star Wars photo backdrop I made so kids could pose for their own movie poster.
We ended the party by breaking open a Millennium Falcon pinata.
We got a version with ribbons to release the candy…
… but that didn’t stop the kids from bashing it with their lightsabers! Good thing they were only pool noodles!
I’m pretty sure these two clowns had a unforgettable time at their epic Star Wars birthday party, and I’m pretty sure everyone else did, too.
And that’s what really matters!

Where did you find the skewers for the grapes?
Atta Girl Amy
Kelli, those skewers came from Walmart. They were made by Wilton, but sadly I think they’ve discontinued them. I’ve tried to find a source for them many times since we had the party, and I’ve never been able to do so. Wilton really should start making them again.
Krystal
For the two signs you did on the gift table (Darth Jackson and Master William) do you have a cut file for Vader and Yoda image on them? If so, could I get them? We are doing Star Wars for my son and this make it so nice to cut them out for decor. Thanks You did awesome and I am using some for his birthday.
Atta Girl Amy
I’m sorry i dodnt see your comment sooner. I think I still havr these files and would happily srnd them to you.

Wow! You really went all out and I love it! We did a similar Star Wars party for my son, but did a lot more then I did!! The snack table is just AWESOME!!! Great work!
Atta Girl Amy
Thanks so much, Carrie. It definitely helped that it was a joint party with his BFF. We had two families working on it. We even put the grandparents to work. And it was all worth it because the birthday boys and their friends had a blast.

My boys would have loved a party like this when they were young! Good Job!
Atta Girl Amy
Thanks, it was a lot of fun. I have to admit, I think I prefer boy parties to princess parties.

Those kids are SO lucky! I especially love the Admiral Ackbar Snackbar and R2D2 cookies.
Atta Girl Amy
We certainly had a blast at the party! I think the boys and their friends all appreciated it. Definitely worth all the work we put into it.

Awesome ideas! I love that you paid SO much attention to all of the little details. Great job!
Atta Girl Amy
Thank you, Heidi. The devil is in the details, and some of them sure gave me fits, but I think all the effort was definitely worth it. The kids had a blast, especially the two birthday boys.
