Have you ever heard of the Furniture Fairy?
There’s a legend that if your clothes hamper is overflowing with paint-streaked clothes and your garage is filled “before” projects and you go to bed at night with paint smudges on your elbows and ankles, she will visit and leave you something special.
I always thought the Furniture Fairy was just that — a legend. I was a nonbeliever, and then something magical happened.
I woke up one morning, walked outside and found this sitting outside my garage:
Now, most people would think this was no prize, that this was the Furniture Fairy equivalent of coal in my stocking at Christmas.
But how wrong they would be.
But the Furniture Fairy is wise, indeed, and she knew I would would strip this badly primed end table, with its missing door panel and myriad cosmetic flaws, and paint it a lovely shade of blue (equal parts French Enamel and Ironstone Miss Mustard Seed’s Milk Paint).
Finally, some distressing and a little dark wax to give the table character and age.
What a transformation!
I almost decided to keep it after using the almost-finished nightstand during a photo shoot for my post about decorating with shadowboxes.
But I decided I will pay the Furniture Fairy’s gift forward and put this table (which would make a great nightstand) up for sale.
Isn’t it a beauty?
Have you ever had a visit from the Furniture Fairy?
(Many thanks to my neighbor, Natalea, my personal furniture fairy for giving me this end table.)
Be sure you check out Natalea’s lake house guest room and nursery, featuring furniture I painted for her.
